Three Diatec Trentino block against Finger
Trento, October 18th 2017
The report of the match: for the knock-out match Angelo Lorenzetti recovered Kovacecic, relying on the usual starting six: Giannelli as setter, Vettori in the opposite role, Lanza as lateral spiker in diagonal with the Serbian, Eder and Zingel as middle-blockers, De Pandis as libero. Gi Group Monza comes with Shoji as setter, Finger as opposite, Dzavoronok and Langlois as spikers, Beretti and Buti as middle-blockers and Rizzo in the libero role.
The start of the match is influenced by Lanza, who Giannelli serves with continuity obtaining the initial 5-3; a foul of Kovacevic and a slash of Beretta turned the tables (7-8), forcing Lorenzetti to ask for a time out on 8-10 in the moment when Dvavoronok blocks Vettori. At the resumption of the game Eder fills the gap (11-11); in the central part of the set the game becomes a point-to-point battle (13-13, 16-16), is then Vettori (ace and counterattack) to get his team ahead (19-16). Monza doesn’t back down but can’t really stop the opponents (21-18, 23-20, 24-22); Lanza closes the first set with a spike on 25-23.
Gi Group tries to make a show of force just after the change of field (0-3) but its escape attempt is foiled by Kovacevic (4-5), who gets the home team ahead with his serve (8-5).
The Trentino serve scores with Zingel as well (11-6), Monza is shaken but doesn’t give up and gets closer with Finger (14-12). Another point from the 9 metres of Eder is needed to widen the gap (16-12); the advantage becomes maximum when Vettori as well scores two other aces (+6, 22-16) standing as absolute protagonist of the set. The 2-0 comes already on 25-20 with an on fire Kovacevic in the final part of the set.
Very uncertain and close is also the start of the third set with both the teams alternating in command (6-5 and 8-10) not giving the impression of being able to leave the opponents behind. The acceleration of Diatec Trentino arrives another time with the serve and in attack with Eder and Lanza (18-14). Monza can’t really answer this time (22-17) and leave space to Trentino Volley, which achieves the pass for the Final Four (25-18, attack of the mvp Kovacevic).
