Michal Winiarski and Stefan Hübner were both legendary players for Trentino Volley, but they also happen to be the last two coaches Simon Torwie had before arriving in Trento. Most likely, they played a central role in convincing the German middle blocker to choose the yellow-blue offer among the many he received.
Torwie is considered one of the most promising prospects in the world at his position and, despite his young age, already has significant international experience.
Born in Palma de Mallorca (Spain)—where his parents were working at the time and where he also developed his volleyball skills—he moved to Germany at sixteen, staying in Frankfurt until 2020 before heading to the U.S. to attend Long Beach State University, a school known for producing players like Ctvrtlik, Lee, and Defalco. There, he competed for four seasons in the NCAA.
In 2024, he returned to Europe to play for SVG Lüneburg, with whom he also competed in the latest edition of the CEV Champions League. It was during a Champions League match against Jastrzebski that Marcelo Mendez—then the future coach of Trentino Volley—noticed him and recommended signing him.
