Cisterna-Trento 0-3, the match report
Cisterna di Latina (Latina), 21 October 2025
Match report. Itas Trentino returns to the SuperLega with the Scudetto on its chest, missing only Lavia, who remained in Trento to continue rehabilitation from a serious injury to his right hand suffered in the summer. For his first match on the yellow-blue bench, coach Marcelo Mendez chooses Sbertoli as setter, Faure as opposite, Michieletto and Ramon as spikers, Bartha and Flavio in the middle, and Laurenzano as libero. Cisterna Volley, led by Daniele Morato (also making his debut), responds with Fanizza as setter, Guzzo as opposite, Lanza and Bayram in position 4, Mazzone and Plak in the middle, and Currie as libero. The start is all about the tricolors, who, with Michieletto (immediate ace) and Faure, go full speed ahead(4-3 and 8-4), forcing the home team to take a timeout; however, when play resumes, it is still Trentino’s block that dominates Lanza (11-6). Trento is effective in every area of the court and Lazio struggles to keep up (15-10 and 18-13), partly because their counterattacks failed to work on the few occasions they managed to regain an advantage. The yellow-blues race towards a 1-0 lead in the set (23-18), before relaxing for a moment in reception (service points from Guzzo and Mazzone for 24-21) and closing out the set 25-21.
In the second set, Itas Trentino struggles to shake off their opponents (5-4 and 8-7), partly because the Pontine team’s side-out is more effective. Michieletto takes charge in the middle of the set, bridging the gap with his serve and attack (14-10), which his teammates defend well thanks to high percentages at the net, especially from Faure. The 2-0 lead comes more decisively (25-18) with Mendez, who, in the meantime, gives the time to shine for Bristot (ace at 19-14), Acquarone, and Gabi Garcia (who scored the point that sent the teams to the changeover).
In the third set, Cisterna tries to give it their all, staying close behind the Italian champions for a long time (5-4 and 8-7). Trento increases the intensity in defense with Sbertoli, capitalizing on Michieletto and taking advantage of Cisterna’s errors (12-7). The yellow-blues control the score well (16-12 and 18-14), punctuated by many service errors on both sides. In the final stages, there is also room for the debut of young Giani (born in 2007), who makes his evening unforgettable by scoring two points: an attack and an ace, which pushes Trento towards a quick 3-0 (25-19).
