The 50th Adige derby goes to verona: 3-1 comeback win over Itas Trentino
Verona, 2 November 2025
After more than three years, the Adige derby returns to Verona with a smile, forcing Itas Trentino to face its second setback in the 2025/26 Credem Banca SuperLega. Tonight, in front of their home crowd, the Verona team secured the 50th edition of the challenge, beating the Italian champions 3-1, allowing them to remain at the top of the table with a perfect score.
The home court advantage and the quality of the hosts’ serve and counterattack made the difference, especially from the second set onwards. In the first set, however, it was Itas Trentino who dictated the play, surprising their opponents with excellent side-outs combined with equally effective break point phases (serve and defense). Despite being at a disadvantage with a sold-out crowd (5,000 spectators), Verona managed to bounce back, building its victory with an exceptional second set on serve (6 direct aces) and a good performance in the following sets, which were much more closely fought but followed a similar pattern. Mendez’s team kept pace well until the middle of the third and fourth sets, often taking the lead before falling behind Darlan and Keita’s rotations from the nine-meter line. Keita was ultimately named MVP with 26 points, 8 aces, 53% in attack, and the only winning block being scored by Rana. For Itas Trentino, the only players to reach double figures were opposite Faure (15 with 53% in attack) and spiker Michieletto, who scored 11 times and was the star of the opening set.
