Thessaloniki (Greece), November 17th, 2015
It will be played tomorrow, on Wednesday November 18th, the second round of the group stage in 2016 Denizbank CEV Volleyball Champions League. In Pool C, first European away match for Trentino Diatec, that will challenge the hosts of Paok Thessaloniki. The kick-off at the Paok Sports Arena is scheduled at 6.00 pm Italian time, broadcasted live on Sky Sports Plus, Radio Dolomiti and audio and video streaming on www.laola1.tv.
HERE TRENTINO DIATEC The Italian champions make a stop in Greece in order to be confirmed at the top of the ranking group, which at the moment they share at maximum points with Tours (next European opponent). To reach this goal Trentino Diatec must therefore necessarily conquer the entire stake in Thessaloniki, in a game that promises to be anything but simple though; to make life more difficult, in addition to the value of the opponent, there is in fact also the calendar which brought the second consecutive commitment away within three days, forcing the Yellow-blues not to return to Trento after the Sunday’s victory for 3-0 in PalaFiera of Forli.
"To win helps to win” - said the Assistant Coach Dario Simoni during the presentation - “therefore it was important to approach the first outdoor seasonal race of Champions League behind the great success on the field of CMC Romagna. In this period there is no time to train but there is no doubt that getting convincing victories like the one on Sunday, can always help us, also for the commitment against Paok. In this tournament there are no easy games, it seems a cliché but it is indeed the case; Greeks have two major outputs of high ball as Cepeda and Jimenez, around who they have built a good team. We will need maximum concentration and ability to react to the possible difficult times".
The Yellow-blues have reached their destination already on Monday afternoon and in the early evening today will have a session of about ninety minutes at the sport facility, the Paok Sports Arena, where in 2005 they played the Final Four of the Champions League won by Tours of Serniotti. The training will be useful to take the reference points for attack, set and service in a very large structure that can accommodate more than six thousand spectators. Although he took part in the trip with his friends, the spiker Tine Urnaut will not take part in the match, but will continue the work differently.
SECOND AWAY MATCH IN GREECE OF TRENTINO VOLLEY’S HISTORY What started on Monday morning and will end on Thursday afternoon (the return to Trento is in fact expected around 3.00 pm, on November 19th) is the second trip ever in Greece in the history of Trentino Volley, that in this country had already played on December 2nd, 2009 in Athens, in the opening game of its second participation of the CEV Champions League, winning for 3-2 against Olympiacos. Totally, the Company of via Trener has already played thirty games away from Trento in this competition, winning in twenty-seven circumstances. The match against PAOK will be the 112^ International one in the Yellow-blu history.
PREVIOUSLY The one of tomorrow is the first absolute competition between the two companies. Against Greek teams Trentino Volley has however in the archive already four official matches, two against Olympiacos Piraeus (challenged at the group stage of the tournament in 2010), one against Iraklis (other team in Thessaloniki, 3-1 in the final of the 2009 edition) and one with the Patras (in 2005 CEV Cup on November 13th, 2004). The total balance smiles at Trento for 3-1; the only defeat against the Greek formations refers to a game played in PalaTrento against Olympiacos on January 13th, 2010 (2-3).
THE REFEREES The competition will be conducted by the Slovenian Boris Skudnik, referee based in Klagenfurt, and Nicolae Marin Romeo, second referee of Galati (Romania). Both boast earlier experiences with Trentino Volley: Skudnik directed Trento vs. Strassen 3-0 on October, 23th 2014, second group match of four Challenge Cup 2015 played at PalaTrento, while Marin refereed on October 25th 2011 Belgrade vs. Trento 0-3, match of the group stage of the Champions League 2012 and on March 5th, 2015 Trento vs. Roeselare 3-2 - the first leg of the Challenge Round of 2015 CEV Cup.
