This afternoon the prestigious trophy room of Trentino Volley Point - the Yellow-blues’ headquarter - has inaugurated the first twenty-four hours of the player Simon Van de Voorde, as a new member of the Italian champion’s team. The tall central from Belgium has been engaged few weeks ago from Latin after an excellent first season in Super League that crowned him the king of blocks, and today he met the media telling and explaining his expectations for the next season (he spoke in English: his statements were translated in real time by English Time - already partner of Trentino Volley for the international version of the website).
"I was surprised by the call from Trento, honestly I didn’t expect it, but I'm glad of the opportunity that came and I had no doubts in choosing this club also facing other offers from Italy and abroad”- he explained to all the journalists. -”My goal is to do better than what everybody is already expecting from me; I don’t like losing, I actually work hard in the gym to don’t let this happen and I hope that Trentino Volley can repeat the results of last season. I already know that next year is going to be full of commitments but the staff who will follow us will be of the highest level and we, as players, will be able to focus only on the matches. My best skill is definitely the block; in my first Italian season I have been recognized especially for that, but of course I want to emphasize also other important skills by working hard everyday with the team and Stoytchev. I know that Radostin is a coach who pretend a lot in the gym, I can not ask for anything better. I don’t know so much of Trento city yet, when I played here as an opponent I saw only hotel and PalaTrento, which is definitely a special place to play volleyball. In Belgium the news of my passage to this Company has received great media attention: Trentino Volley is very well known in my country."
“After the excellent season lived in Latina, Van de Voorde will have the opportunity to push forward here in Trento: it's something that we all hope
”- said the General Manager of Trentino Volley Bruno Da Re -. “He will have the difficult task to replace a player who has given so much as Birarelli, but we believe he can do it and we place great emphasis on his blocks to be able to build an effective team in this crucial."
Van de Voorde will leave Trento on Wednesday to return to work immediately with the Belgian National: after the ankle injury that had affected the playoff championship with Latin, his goal now is to play the European Championship in October.
