Round of sixteen of derby dell’Adige of SuperLega is set for Sunday

The round sixteen of regular season of SuperLega Credem Banca 2018/19 will be played today and on Sunday. For the occasion, Itas Trentino will be playing again at the BLM Group Arena of Trento, facing Calzedonia Verona during the traditional derby dell’Adige. The match is set for 6.00 p.m.: live on Radio Dolomiti and Lega Volley Channel.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO The roster of Trento will be playing once again in front of its audience on Sunday (the last home match it took part in was on 14th October against Siena) to face one of its most important home matches. The confrontation with the opponents from Verona gives the possibility to gain some important points also to obtain the best raking possible for the quarterfinals of Coppa Italia 2019. The position will be determined bearing in mind the ranking of regular season at the end of the going round.
“We have to be aware of the home court advantage because it is fundamental to keep on winning regularly at the BLM Group Arena, just as we did so far, especially on such an important match – declared the coach Angelo Lorenzetti during the presentation – we will face Calzedonia, a team that is statistically similar to us in this first phase of Championship, except from being more effective during the break points. This will offer us a good occasion to test our side-out phase and at the same time our mental stamina, an important aspect also to verify the progress, if any, after the away match in Bari, during which we could notice some problems in this sense”.
The coach can count on the whole roster, thirteen players, who will train at the BLM Group Arena today, late in the afternoon and on Sunday morning.
On this occasion, Itas Trentino will take part in its 773rd official match and will try and win for the 534th time: to this day it has won 279 home matches and 254 away ones.
NELLI AT HIS 100TH MATCH WITH TRENTINO VOLLEY Opposite player Gabriele Nelli celebrates his 100th match with Trentino Volley today, becoming the third player raised in the Youth Team to cross the triple figures goal, after Lanza (300) and Giannelli (202). The stats of the young player from Tuscany speak of 6 matches in 2013/2014, 20 in 2014/2015, 23 in 2015/2016, 43 in 2016/2017, 7 in 2018/2019 and a total of 585 points scored.
EIGHT FORMER PLAYERS AND COACHES IN THE MATCH AGAINST VERONA Additional interest to the match comes from the many players that once played for Trentino Volley and will today return to BLM Group Arena as contenders; a total of eight, including players and technical staff members. Sebastian Solé and Daniele De Pandis are of course the most awaited players, 189 and 41 caps with Trentino Volley; but also both coaches Nikola Grbic and Angelo Lorenzetti, his assistant Dante Boninfante, Uros Kovacevic, Emanuele Birarelli and Cristian Savani.
THE OPPONENT Calzedonia Verona arrives in Trento after three wins in a row and the sixth position in the rank, with a match still to play against Castellana Grotte (in Puglia on December 5th). The team coached by Grbic already played against Perugia and Civitanova, like Itas Trentino, without bringing home points and is now determined to win some crucial points against a Big team right here in Trento. During the beginning of the season Boyer was appointed as successor of Djuric as opposite spiker: the french player is indeed the fifth scorer of the league (with one match still to play) and only Leon scored more break points so far. Many are the strengths of this team, with Iranian spiders Manavi and Sharifi, italiani Savani and Maretta, as well as Jaeschke; as middle-blockers there are Alletti, Grozdanov, Solé and Birarelli.
PRECEDENTS It’s the 35th official match between the two teams; this challenge was named Adige’s Derby and was almost always won by Trentino Volley, leading 24 to 9. The most recent defeat in Trento was on November 5th 2017 when Maar and Stern led their team to victory; after that episode, Trento won three times against one for Verona, including 2018 Playoff Scudetto quarter finals won 2-1.
REFEREES Simone Santi (from Città di Castello in Perugia, Serie A referee since 1994 and international FIVB ref since 2011) and Andrea Puecher (from Padova - ref since 2003 and international since 2013) are the two referees directing the match.
