The return match of sixteen of 2019 CEV Cup at the BLM Group Arena on Wednesday

The returning matches of the round of sixteen of 2019 CEV Cup, the second most important European club competition, will be played between today and Thursday, 17th January. Trentino Itas is about to take part in its fourth European match of the season, the third played at home: it will face Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching on 16th January, again at the BLM Group Arena, like it did last year, on 20th December (3-0 win). The match will start at 8.30 pm Italian time: live on Radio Dolomiti.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO To assure itself another prestigious international trophy, Trentino Itas has to win two sets in this match that originally was to be played in Germany but since the weather forecasts were not good, CEV decided that the match should be played in Trento. Although the favourable circumstances, Angelo Lorenzetti still suggests to be careful, considering that this match takes place a few days before the big match against Civitanova, on Sunday and a few days after the long stay in Vibo Valentia.
“We care a lot about this appointment, we want to finish what we started in the going match. - explains the coach - We should forget the result we obtained in December, to take the field with the right attitude. It won’t be a riskless match since we are facing one of the top teams in one of the most important European competition, like the German one is. I ask my team for concentration, determination and craving for reaching our goal.”
The coach can count on all his players, that will carry out just two more training sessions before the match, one today in the afternoon and one on Wednesday morning.
55TH INTERNATIONAL MATCH AT THE BLM GROUP ARENA On Wednesday, the BLM Group Arena will host the fifty-fifth European match in the history of Trentino Volley, the thirty-first of CEV Cup, during which it has won twenty-five times (the only five losses are the two against Ankara in 2005, one against Mosca in 2015, one against Fernerbahce and one against Tour in 2017). Trentino Itas will play its 791st official match, the 156th international one (127 wins, 28 losses) trying to win for the twenty-first time in a row in this season. The most recent loss is the one on 4th November 2018 (2-3 against Civitanova).
THE OPPONENTS It should have been a home match for our opponents, but since the Sportzentrum of Unterhaching had been precautionary closed for snow, Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching has to play again in Trento, for the third time in just a few month (it took part in a friendly match in september against Trentino Itas), after having played just a little during Christmas time. After the 3-0 loss against our team it played just two away matches: one lost 0-3 against Rhein-Main and one won 3-1 in Duren. Those results allowed it to keep its position at the top of Bundesliga just one point more than Friedrichshafen, which has played a match more. This team was born in 2017 from the unification of two team of different nationalities: the Austrian Volleyballteam Innsbruck and the German TSV Unterhaching. It has now to win the regular match within four sets at most and also the next playoff, at the BLM Group Arena, where Trentino Itas has lost just one set in the ten previous matches. Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching’s roster: 1. Florian Ringseis (libero), 2. Thomas Hodges (opposite hitter), 3. Krill Klets (opposite hitter), 4. Matthew Pollock (middle hitter), 5. Jonas Sagstetter (spiker), 6. Danilo Gelinski (setter), 10. Hugo De Leon Guimaraes Da Silva (spiker), 11. Pedro Henrique Frances (middle hitter), 13. Pawel Halaba (spiker), 14. Douglas Duarte Souza Da Silva (middle hitter), 15. Niklas Kronthaler (spiker), 16. Daniel Koncal (setter). Coach Stefan Chrtiansky Sr.
TRENTINO ITAS WILL QUALIFY FOR THE QUARTERFINALS IF… To qualify for the quarterfinals Trentino Itas needs to win two sets in the match of Wednesday evening. Thanks to the 3-0 win of the going match, our team can even lose at the tie break to avoid the golden set with AlpenVolleys Haching, that will be played only if the German team will win in four sets at most. The regulation is the same used during the phase of Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League. Who has access to the next round will face the winner of the Amriswil-Brcko match in the quarterfinals (the returning match will be played on Wednesday evening after the Swiss’ 3-0 home win in the going match).
THE FORMULA AND THE OTHER MATCHES The 2019 CEV Cup has six double rounds (going and return) of matches (Round of sixty-four, Round of thirty-two – already played – Round of sixteen, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Final) with direct elimination: the team that obtains the most points, assigned as in the championship, within the two rounds passes the round: 3 for the victory for 3-0 or 3-1, 2 for victory at tie break, 1 for defeat at tie break (golden set at 15 in case of tie- same formula of Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League). The other return matches of round of sixteen (In brackets the results of the going matches): today Galatasaray Istanbul (Tur)-Dukla Liberec (Cze) (3-2); on Wednesday: Ok Mladost Brcko (Bih)-Lindaren Volley Amriswil (Sui) (0-3), Ford Store Levoranta Sastamala (Fin)-Kladno Volejbal Cz (Cze) (3-2), Cv Teruel (Esp)-Lindemans Aalst (Bel) (2-3); on Thursday: Olympiacos Piraeus (Gre)-Istanbul BBSK (Tur) (3-1), Neftohimic 2010 Burgas (Bul)-Viking Tif Bergen (Nor) (3-1), Indykpol Azs Olsztyn (Pol)-Kuzbass Kemerovo (Rus) (2-3).
