2019 Cev Cup, on Wednesday night the going match of the quarter finals in Switzerland

The race for SuperLega Credem Banca 2018/19 goes on, Trentino Itas comes back in action, on this occasion for an international appointment. On Wednesday 30th of January indeed they are going to compete for the going match of quarter finals of 2019 CEV Cup in Switzerland; after having wiped out Lausanne during the round of thirty-two and Haching in the round of sixteen, our team will face Lindaren Volley Amriswil in the fourth double turn of matches of the European competition. The game will start at 19 at the Sporthalle Tellenfeld: live on Radio Dolomiti.
HERE TRENTINO ITAS The match in Switzerland will close a month full of important appointments for Itas Trentino, that within 25 days has competed against its strongest opponents for the victory of the championship regular season (Perugia and Civitanova) and has played two matches in or outside Verona (Coppa Italia) and AlpenVolleys (CEV Cup). The double challenge vs Amriswil represents another not to underestimate match, both because the level of the opponents increases by coming closer to the final stage and also due to the mechanism of qualification to the next turn of the tournament, which is quite restrictive in terms of mistakes.
“We will have to be very careful to many things – this is how the coach Angelo Lorenzetti introduces the upcoming match - ; we will go and play this match without previous training and we will have to deal with an opponent team that will try and exploit its home ground aiming at making it difficult for us. The arena in Amriswil is quite small indeed, we will have to find our reference points as soon as possible in order to play in the best way. These are the matches where we have to be absolutely focused, because getting the wrong tactic would be disastrous. We still have to improve under many aspects and also Wednesday’s appointment can be an important occasion to benefit from.”
Trentino Itas coach will have the whole roster at his disposal, who already tonight will start training that, under CEV regolation, will take place in the arena where the match will be played. The World Champions will reach Amriswil in the early afternoon by coach.
SECOND CONSECUTIVE AWAY MATCH IN SWITZERLAND, THE THIRD EVER On Wednesday Trentino Volley will play a match in Switzerland for the third time in its history, a country where, interestingly, Trentino Volley had been only once (on the 10th of December 2013 in Lugano winning 3-0 in Champions League) and where it comes back just after 2 months from the previous one (21th November, victory in Lausanne in the three-sets going match of the round of thirty-two). Totally Itas Trentino has already competed 67 European away matches (of which 16 only in CEV Cup), winning 47 times. The match in Lausanne will be the 152th international one in its history; balance: 123 victories against 28 defeats.
THE OPPONENTS After Lausanne LUC, Trentino Volley faces another strong Swiss team. Lindaren Volley Amriswil, which is representative of the small city of 13.000 inhabitants close to Lake Constance, was founded in 1969, yet it begun to have national fame just twenty years later, beginning to achieve ever better results and then costantly playing in the European Cups. This is ist 15th presence in CEV Cup indeed: never before had the team overtaken the round of sixteen. The best result ever has been achieved in this edition indeed (where they wiped out the Dutch team from Groningen in the round of thirty-two and the Bosniac Brcko team in the round of sixteen), after having managed to participate and winning its 5th Cup of Switzerland during the previous year. The team also achieved five championships (the last one in 2017) and two Swiss Supercups; what international matches regards, the Swiss team played in one Champions League edition (in 2017, beaten by Perugia in the round qualification phase) and in five Challenge Cups. The coach of the roster is the Dutch Marco Klok (known to many of us because he won -as a player- a championship in 2000 (in Rome) and because he played in Serie A with Città di Castello, Napoli and Forlì); he can count on the middle-blockers Ljubicic (Serbian - sixth seasons with this team) and Kamnik (Slovenian, ex Izmir and Lubiana), on the opposite spikers Zass (from Austria) and Gommans (he played in Germany and France), on the setter Howatson (from Canada; he played in the Spanish, French and Turkish championship too) and on the libero Daniel.
In the Swiss championship Lindaren Volley is in the lead thanks to 14 victories out of 14 matches and they have about ten points more than the second and third teams Schoenenwed and Lausanne; last Saturday they confirmed their skills and power thanks to their victory in three sets in Berna. The roster of Lindaren Volley Amriswil: 1. Clement Daniel (libero), 2. Joshua Christofer Howatson (setter), 3. Jan Messerli (middle-blocker), 4. Luca Weber (setter), 5. Luca Mueller (spiker), 6. Tinko Schnegg (libero), 7. Matevz Kamnik (middle-blocker), 9. Thomas Zass (opposite), 10. Ewoud Gommans (spiker), 11. Aleksander Ljubicic (middle-blocker), 12. Dominik Fort (spiker), 14. Jovan Djokic (spiker), 15. Julian Weisigk (opposite), 17. Thomas Braendl (middle-blocker). Coach Marko Klok.
FORMULA AND OTHER MATCHES In the 2019 CEV Cup the teams have to play six double turns - home and away games - (Round of sixty-four, Round of thirty-two, Round of sixteen - already played -, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Final) and there is a straight up elimination: the team that scores more points in the two matches (awarded like during the championship: 3 points for victories 3-0 or 3-1, 2 point for the victory at tiebreak, 1 point for the defeat at tiebreak - golden set until 15 in case of tie - like in Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League) moves into the next turn and will face in the Semifinals the winning team between Burgas and Olympiacos. The Quarterfinals going matches on Wednesday: Neftohimic Burgas-Olympiacos Piraeus, Galatasaray Istanbul-Lindemans Aalst and Ford Store Levoranta Sastamala-Kuzbass Kemerovo. The return matches will be played between 13th and 14th February: Trentino Itas-Lindaren Volley Amriswil will be on Wednesday 13th February at BLM Group Arena starting from 20.30 (included in the seasonal tickets).
PREVIOUS MATCHES The teams will play on Wednesday for the first time; however Trentino Volley has already played with success against other Swiss teams: against Lugano in Champions League (victory on 30th October 2014 in Italy and on 10th December 2014 in Switzerland) and against Losanna (double 3-0, on 21st November in Switzerland and on 6th December in Italy).
REFEREES The match will be directed by Stephane Takaichvili, from Georgia, and by Burhan Ilhan, second referee of Ankara. Only Burhan Ilhan had already directed a match with Trentino Volley: the away game in Switzerland on 21st November - victory for 3-0 in Losanna.
