On Wednesday in France the last match of Pool E of 2022 CEV Champions League

The 2022 CEV Champions League will experience the last day of the Main Phase on Wednesday, February 16. On this occasion, Trentino Itas will play its third continental commitment away, playing the sixth round of Pool E in France, host of As Cannes Dragons. Startin bell is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Italian time at the Palais des Victoires: live broadcast by Radio Dolomiti and discovery+.
HERE TRENTINO ITAS Found the victory on Sunday afternoon in the home match against Taranto, the Gialloblù team in Costa Azzurra is looking for another success to continue feeding the hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the trophy. In order to hit the target, a maximum four-set win will be needed, as well as good news from the fields involving the teams aiming for second place in the other three rounds, such as Kedzierzyn-Kozle in Pool C (on stage in Civitanova Marche), Ankara in Pool C (host to Dinamo Mosca) and Berlin and St. Petersburg in Pool D (which face each other twice in Russia between Wednesday and Thursday).
"We have to think only about doing our job - explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti - without looking at what is happening elsewhere because this could take away our energy and attention for a match that may seem easy only on the surface. We are still in an emergency situation and the Cannes team that we will face on Wednesday night will be a different team from the one we played in the first match in mid-January, seeing that they now have a couple of extra valuable players in their lineup, such as opposite spiker Jimenez and hitter spiker Penchev. So we'll need a very focused approach and the determination I saw in the field on Sunday to get the better of them. We don't want our European race to end in France".
The coach of the Trentino Itas team will use the last training sessions before the match, between this afternoon and Wednesday morning, to dissolve the reserves on which lineup to propose in the field, since the first exchange; Srecko Lisinac could return to the starting six if the sensations perceived in the two sessions are positive. If not, there will still be room for Cavuto in the middle, given the unavailability of Podrascanin (however, in Cannes with the team to continue the differentiated work with the medical and technical staff).
SIXTH TRIP TO FRANCE FOR TRENTINO IN VOLLEY HISTORY The one that started on Monday morning and will end at dawn on Thursday (the return to Trento will take place the night after the match) is the sixth trip ever to France for Trentino Volley, a return across the Alps four years later since last time. The most recent precedent in this country is bound to a trip to Reims on 14 March 2018, on that occasion to play the first round of the 16th round of the Champions League (later lost to the tie break), while the first time (11 November 2008 in Beauvais – win in three sets) also represents the historic absolute external debut of the Club in via Trener, in the top continental competition. In between there are also three matches in Tours: 1 November 2012, 16 December 2015 and 15 April 2017. The challenge will represent the 192nd international match in the history of Trentino Volley, the 110th ever in the Champions League where he won 85 previous matches.
THE OPPONENT As Cannes Dragons will greet the CEV Champions League just at the end of Wednesday night’s home game against Trentino Itas. The return, ten years after the last time, of the historic transalpine club in the top European competition did not give much satisfaction; the Biancorossi lost all five games played (one also at the table, renouncing to support the transfer of Perugia due to a high number of positives at Covid-19), quickly becoming the final beacon of the group. Although all the attention is now focused on the path to the French league, which sees it last in the standings and looking for a difficult salvation, the French Champion squad will try to close its continental adventure with a smile, chasing more points in the standings after the one won a week earlier with Fenerbahce. Compared to the first race, the new names in the roster are those of the opposite spiker Colombian Jimenez and the Bulgarian hitter spiker Penchev, who the coach Matijasevic could confirm in the starting six as he did recently in both LNV and the Champions League. The roster of the As Cannes Dragons: 1. Aleksa Batak (p), 2. Daniel Gruvaeus (s), 3. Romain Bregent (c), 4. Allan Tschupp (p), 5. David Sossenheimer (s), 6. Rodrigue Manuhalalo (c), 7. Oleksiy Klyamar (s), 8. Danilo Gelinski (p), 9. Danijel Koncilja (c), 10. Okan Demiryurek (l); 11. Wyllan Annicette (s), 12. Krasimir Georgiev (c), 13. Xavier Battelli (c), 14. Jeremie Mouiel (l), 17. Filip Cveticanin (c), 18. Ronald Andreas Jimenez Zamora (o), 19. Nikolay Penchev (s). Coach Nikola Matijasevic.
THE SITUATION OF POOL E With all the ranking positions already defined in the previous round, the points up for grabs on the sixth and last day of Pool E will be of interest only to Trentino Itas, who in Cannes will try to conquer the entire post in order to aspire to become one of the three best runners-up in the group phase (an indispensable condition to qualify for the quarter-finals). The other match, the one scheduled in Perugia at 8.30 pm between Sir Sicoma Monini and Fenerbahce, could allow the hosts to conclude the grouping with a clear path; up until now the Block Devils have in fact obtained five 3-0 victories in as many matches.
THE FORMERS Trentino Volley and As Cannes Dragons have only one official match in their long history: the one played at the BLM Group Arena for the first round last January 13th and won 3-0 by the Gialloblù with partials of 25-13, 25-13, 25-13. For the Trentino team, this will be the twelfth match against a French team, taking into account the six matches already played against Tours (4-2), the two played against Chaumont (1-1) and the two played against Beauvais (both won): the overall result is eight victories and three defeats, all away from home. Trentino Volley has not won in France since November 1, 2012 (3-0 in Tours).
THE REFEREES The match will be directed by Risto Strandson, first Estonian referee from Tallinn, and by Helena Geldof, second Dutch referee from Amsterdam. Both are in their first ever match against Trentino Volley.
