SuperLega, new away match in Piacenza on Sunday

The third round of the regular season of SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23 is being played this weekend. After the one in Verona, Itas Trentino will immediately face a new away game, visiting Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in the postponement scheduled for Sunday, October 16th at PalaBanca at 8:30 pm. Live broadcast on Rai Sport + (DGTV channel 58), Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the OTT Volleyball World Tv platform.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO In Emilia, the yellow-blue lineup will look for an immediate comeback to league victory after last week's fifth-set backswing in Verona, but will have to try to do so without its first-string setter.
Indeed, throughout Thursday's practice Riccardo Sbertoli cought a low-grade injury of the internal oblique muscle in his abdomen and will have to miss the match pending further examinations. In his place in the control booth will therefore play the young Niccolò Depalma (class 2002, born into art - his father Esteban was a setter for Modena and Rome in  A1 Series between the 1980s and 1990s), who will make his SuperLega debut on this occasion, after having competed in the past seasons for the A3 and B Series with the jersey of UniTrento Volley (Trentino Volley's junior team).
"It is a match that assigns important points in the rank, but on the court some protagonists will be away and therefore it will be little indicative for the championship of either team," explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti introducing the event, and then continued “Even more so, it will be necessary to focus our attention on some essential aspects of the game, and then consider the moves to opt for during the course of the match by looking at its evolution. Certainly, we will not have to look for individual sprints, but to work at our best as a group, making sure to enhance our qualities and hide those flaws that it is normal to have at this stage of the season, regardless of who we will insert in the starting six. We will therefore need a lot of concentration and team spirit."
Trentino Volley will arrive at Piacenza as soon as early evening today, after having carried out the eve training at the BLM Group Arena this afternoon; with the team there will also be the Youth Sector setter Francesco Bernardis (class 2004), who will complete the pair of setters available for the occasion. The match with Piacenza will correspond to the 946th official match in the history of the Via Trener club and will see the yellow-blue club going in search of its 314th away win; a result that has been missing in the regular season since February 27th (a four-set victory right at PalaBanca).
THE OPPONENTS Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza is waiting for Itas Trentino, aiming to gain the very first seasonal victory during the SuperLega, and it intends to play an even more leading role. The transfer market made the coach Lorenzo Bernardi acquire an extremely competitive shortlist, characterized by big individual personalities such as Leal, Lucarelli (both in doubt for the match because of physical problems), Simon and Romanò, Caneschi, Scanferla and Recine, who already worn the white-red jersey in the previous season. Although the first two defeats during the regular season, the competitions played against Verona (2-3) and Modena (1-3), highlighted how the Emilians’ team is characterized by an amazing block (both in double figures) and a very sharp serving, as the already scored 19 aces show (6 from Romanò, who already appeared in good shape). There is a huge excitement for this match: a thousand tickets have already been bought in pre-sale.
BACKGROUND The competition between Trentino Volley and Piacenza runs deep, as the sixty-five previous matches tell; the Emilian team is therefore the third opponent who has been faced plenty of times throughout Trentino Volley’s history (ahead of it there is just Civitanova with 88 competitions and Modena with 78). In details, it concerns 38 regular season matches, 23 during the Play Off Scudetto (among the finals of 2008, 2009 and 2013 editions and quarterfinal in 2005, 2021 and 2022), 2 during the Italian Cup (2004 semi-final and 2015 quarterfinal) and 2 during CEV Cup (2017 quarterfinals). The score is in favour of Trener Street Club for 46-19, also thanks to the long winning streak imposed in the recent years; since Piacenza came back to the biggest national championship (season 2019/20 thanks to the establishment of a new club), it won just one of the eleven official matches: the last one was played at home at PalaBanca (at the tie break, April 3d 2022 competing for 2 of the Play Off Scudetto-quarterfinals). The very first official match had been played almost twenty years ago in Emilia, but it was in a different sports arena from Sunday’s one (PalaAnguissola, which is now Pala Franzanti): December 29th 2002, Copra Ventaglio Piacenza-Itas Grunding Trentino 0-3. As a part of the yellow-blue shortlist there were also the current Trentino Volley’s Team Manager Riccardo Michieletto and Lorenzo Bernardi, who is now the Emilian team’s coach.
THE REFEREES The match will be managed by Dominga Lot (from Santa Lucia di Piave – Treviso, tenured since 2010 and international since 2017) and by Umberto Zanussi (from Treviso, in the top league since 2006). For Lot, the most recent match against Trentino Volleyball is curiously just related to a match played in Piacenza: February 27th, 3-1 victory for Lorenzetti’s team during the regular season. For Zanussi the most recent match dates back to April 14th: yellow-blue team victory for 3-0 in Civitanova Marche, during the first match day of the Play Off semi-final.
TV, RADIO AND INTERNET The competition will be a global media event, with a live streaming on TV, radio and Internet. On the little screen it will be broadcast by RAI Sport +, a channel available on the digital terrestrial platform at number 58 with commentary by Alessandro Antinelli and Fabio Vullo.  A live coverage on Radio Dolomiti is also foreseen, Trentino Volley media partner. The frequency bands for listening to the regional network, may be consulted on website: www.radiodolomiti.com, where it will also be possible to follow the radio report by live streaming, too.
