2022 Supercoppa will be awarded in Cagliari at the beginning of the week

At the beginning of next week at the PalaPiratsu in Cagliari, the first Italian title of the 2022/23 season of Italian men's volleyball will be awarded: the Del Monte® Supercoppa 2022. For the seventh consecutive edition, the competition will feature the four teams with the best placement in the last season, engaged in a Final Four, similar in every way to the one played in mid-season for the Coppa Italia. Itas Trentino will take the court in the second semi-final on Monday October 31st,facing Sir Safety Susa Perugia at 8:30 p.m. Live broadcast on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the OTT Volleyball World Tv platform.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO Already arrived on Saturday evening in Cagliari as defending champions, the yellow-blue lineup is preparing to experience the first important appointment of its season, and will do so after two victories in the championship: seven days ago against Cisterna and last Wednesday against Modena. The two victories boosted the SuperLega rankings and offered enthusiasm and conviction to Kaziyski and his teammates in the run-up to Monday's match with Perugia.
"I am very attached to Sardinia, a land where I have often been when I coached the youth national teams, and which I am pleased to find again on this occasion, even if I know that this will not favour the influx of fans from Trento,'' Trentino coach Angelo Lorenzetti explained during the presentation. This event is always an important moment in the early part of our season and will allow us to compare ourselves with three other high-level teams. We will try to be protagonists, aware of the value of the opponents and in particular that of Perugia, who we will face immediately in the semifinals. We will have to be good at taking advantage of the opportunities that will come our way, we will need an aggressive and determined approach to the match".
For the first knockout match of his seventh season on the Trentino Volley bench, the coach from Marche will be able to count on all fourteen players in the squad, who trained twice (morning and evening) today at the PalaPiratsu.
In the yellow-blue ranks there are ten players who can boast one or more participations in the Italian Supercoppa: Marko Podrascanin is the one who has won the most (six victories), Matey Kaziyski is the only one who has already won more than one with Trento (2011 and 2021 editions), while the absolute beginners are Berger, Depalma, Laurenzano and Pace. For Trentino Volley, the semi-final against Perugia will be the 950th official match in its more than 20-year history, the third ever in Cagliari where it had previously played on February 11th 2006 (0-3 defeat against the local team) and November 1st 2011 (3-1 victory over Cuneo in a Supercoppa Final).
THIRTY-SIXTH SUPERCOPPA FINAL IN THE YELLOW-BLUE HISTORY On Monday, Trentino Volley kicks off its thirteenth participation in the Italian Supercoppa finals. In this single event the via Trener club boasts twelve previous ones; In addition to the quarter-finals recorded in the 2016 and 2017 editions, and the third in the 2019 and 2020 editions, the other records in the event for the Trentino club are linked to the matches in Florence 2008 (the first ever, 0-3 defeat against Lube), Turin 2010 (0-3 against Cuneo), Cagliari 2011 (3-1 against Cuneo), Modena 2012 and 2015 (2-3 against Lube and 2-3 against the hosts), Trento 2013 (3-0 again against Lube), Perugia 2018 (2-3 against Modena) and Civitanova 2021 (3-1 against Monza): three wins out of twelve participations.
THE OPPONENTS Sir Safety Conad Perugia comes to Sardinia as the main favourite to win the Final Four. The five three-point victories and the only three sets lost in the first segment of the SuperLega regular season have confirmed the goodness of the purchase campaign carried out in the summer with the aim of improving not only the starting line-up but also the entire squad to be placed in the hands of new coach Andrea Anastasi. So much so that the coach from Poggio Rusco has so far often chose the planned turn over, bringing in many players, including middle-blocker Russo, the Cuban opposite player Herrera Jaime (his entrance was decisive in the 3-1 win on Thursday evening in Civitanova Marche), the setter Plotnytskyi and the libero Piccinelli, who may be the right elements to make Solé, Rychlicki, Leon and Colaci, respectively, rest. The real new names in the Umbrian starting line-up, however, are the Polish setter Semeniuk (whom Trento met twice in the recent Champions League finals, when he wore the Kedzierzyn-Kozle jersey) and the Brazilian middle-blocker forward, ex-Vibo, Flavio Gualberto.
BACKGROUND With Monday's match Perugia will become the fourth opponent Trentino Volley has faced the most times in official matches during its twenty-two-year history. In fact, there are already forty-seven direct confrontations on record (as many as Cuneo), four of which were played in the same phase of the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 editions of the trophy (with two victories on each side). The total balance sees the Umbrians ahead 23-24 also thanks to three wins in five matches played in the current calendar year. Perugia, however, has won six of the last eleven previous matches, including the Coppa Italia Final last March 6th in Bologna. A total of seven matches have been played on neutral courts, with the Umbrians winning five of them: both played in Civitanova Marche, one played in Bari, and two in Bologna.
THE REFEREES Fipav chose the six referees who will manage both the semi-finals and finals matches, without letting the pair composition of the single matches be known (it will be revealed tonight). The name’s shortlist can count on Alessandro Cerra (from Bologna), Stefano Cesare (Rome), Giuseppe Curto (Trieste), Dominga Lot (Santa Lucia di Piave, Treviso), Armando Simbari (Milan) and Umberto Zanussi (Treviso).
