SuperLega, on Sunday another appointment at the BLM Group Arena

The seventh turn of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23 regular season will be played this weekend. After Thursday’s 3-0 victory in the Champions League, Itas Trentino will be immediately competing again at the BLM Group Arena, against Gioiella Prisma Taranto in one of the three competitions scheduled for Sunday, November 13th at 6 p.m. Live on Radio Dolomiti and streaming broadcast on OTT Volleyball World TV platform.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO After two impressive victories for 3-0 in the championship (Monza) and in the Champions League (Menen), the yellow-blue line-up is looking for another positive result to confirm its good moment and to make a further step forward in a very short ranking between the second and ninth place (eight teams enclosed in six points).
“Before concluding our first round, we still have four matches to play, and each one offers the key points to manage to qualify as best as we can for the Final Eight of the Italian Cup – explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti as he presented the appointment - . Sunday’s competition against Taranto is therefore an important phase of our race towards our objective, but also a moment to be confirmed about our present shape and about the ability of always holding the attention in more matches within the same week. Moreover, Prisma is a high-level team in volleyball, especially when it is given the way of boosting its energy and gaining confidence”.
The yellow-blue coach must do without the hitter spiker Oreste Cavuto (abdominal injury in midweek), but he could always count on the thirteen shortlist’s players, who will complete their preparation with this afternoon’s training session and Sunday morning’s final one. In the previous home matches of the regular season, Itas Trentino has always gained points (3 against Siena, two against Cisterna, one against Civitanova), losing at least one set in each match. Sunday’s competition will be the 953d in the yellow-blue team’s history, the 438th at home (the balance of 345 victories and 92 defeats), the 557th in the regular season.
THE OPPONENTS The eleventh position in the rankings must not be misleading; Gioiella Prisma Taranto, who will be at the BLM Group Arena on Sunday is a team who, in the first six match days of the SuperLega proved its ability to succeed in a height balanced regular season and that it is just a point away from the Playoff zone. The home success in the three sets against Monza, the 3-2 victory against Verona and the tie break lost in Apulia against Padova are the most important results of a path that saw Di Pinto’s line-up being a challenge also to Civitanova, Cisterna and Piacenza, even though al defeats came by 0-3. The key members are the opposite Stefani (ninth tournament’s bomber) and the Canadian wing Loepky (among the most efficient attackers and servers of the category), but in the red-blue roster there are other important characters such as the former Antonov, the libero Rizzo and the middle blocker Alletti.
BACKGROUND The game between Prisma Taranto and Trentino Volley made its comeback last season, almost twelve years after the previous time. Indeed, between 2000 and 2010 the two societies faced each other fourteen times, exclusively in official matches of the regular season of the former Serie A1 championship. The overall tally thus includes sixteen matches and sees the yellow-blue club ahead 9-7. The yellow-blue team won seven of the nine most recent matches, including the two from the last regular season: by 3-1 on November 24th, 2021 in Puglia, by 3-0 on February 13th, 2022 in Trento. At the BLM Group Arena, the competition has been played a total of eight times, with six wins by the hosts and two by the guests (always at the tie break: December 21st, 2008 and September 10th, 2006).
THE REFEREES The match will be managed by the duo Antonella Verrascina (from Rome, in Serie A since 2017) and Andrea Puecher (from Rubano - Padua, in the highest category since 2003 and international category since 2013), in their second and third matches of the season in SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23, respectively. The only one who has already faced Trentino Volley is Puecher, in this championship he refereed the 3-2 home win over Cisterna on October 23rd. For Verrascina, on the other hand, it is the first time with the yellow-blue team.
