Italian Champions score in tie-break in men's SuperLega 2023/24 debut

The defense of the Scudetto won in mid-May began with a hard-fought but well-deserved victory at Lazio for the men's team from Itas Trentino.  In the evening, the Italian champions won 3-2 at the Cisterna sports hall, scoring their first win of the regular season of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2023/24 on a pitch that has always been enchanted over the last two seasons. The Pontine ground was once again in danger of proving too much for the yellow-blue, who, while waiting for their game mechanisms to become more polished and their shape to improve, managed to summon up all their mental and temperamental energy to gain two valuable points for the standings. After a perfect start to the match, Soli's team had to endure a fierce comeback from the hosts, who were leading 2-1 thanks to the accuracy of their service and the attacking power of the Faure-Ramon-Peric high-ball trio (62 points in three).  At their most difficult moment (4-1 down in the fourth set), the tricolor team responded as a unit, regaining their strength on the counter-attack and at the block(decisive factors in the first set) and crowning their comeback with 25-17 and 15-8 wins in the last two sets to secure the final result. Michieletto (21 points, with two blocks, three aces and 59% at the net despite a slight bout of flu the night before), Lavia (MVP with 18 balls and 57% at the net) and Rychlicki (16), who was very effective in the three sets won, all played important roles in the victory.
