SuperLega, Itas Trentino prevails in top clash with Piacenza

The top clash of the fourth round of SuperLega Credem Banca 2023/24, played earlier than usual Saturday evening at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento, went to Itas Trentino men's team, boosting its run in the regular season rankings. Saturday's success in four sets against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, which came to Trento with full points after three straight 3-0 victories in as many rounds, allowed the Italian champions to maintain their unbeaten streak (the only team in the tournament still without loss) and also to gain the first position, ousting the Emilians from the throne.
In front of 2,668 spectators, Michieletto and his teammates offered an even more convincing performance than the one showed six days earlier in Verona, both because Piacenza for at least three sets went head-to-head with the yellow-blues (despite missing Romanò and Scanferla), and because the technical-tactical level was even higher than in the recent past. With an almost perfect (just two direct errors in the whole match) and precise attack, very incisive serves (ten aces, three each by Sbertoli and Podrascanin) and attentive blocks (again scoring ten times), the Champions managed to impose their will, lowering the level of their game only in the third set. It was only momentarily, as Michieletto (best scorer with 18 points, two blocks and aces) and Rychlicki (16) returned dominating as they had done in the very tight end of the first set and for much of the second. Credit also goes to Sbertoli, again chosen as the match's MVP for his polished handling of the entire offensive front, and to Podrascanin’s problem solving.
