Season journey in CEV Champions League begins with 3-1 home win against Ljubljana

Trentino Itas lived up to the expectations in this season’s international debut. Thursday night, at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento, the Italian champions achieved a three-point victory, defeating Slovenia’s ACH Volleyball Ljubljana after four sets in the first match of Pool D (2024 CEV Champions League). A well-deserved victory, considering that the guests, for long stretches of the match, went head-to-head with the hosts. In front of the home crowd, coach Fabio Soli proposed a very different set-up from the previous six matches played so far in SuperLega. Trento’s coach, anticipating the next commitments, kept Lavia, Kozamernik and, partially, Laurenzano at rest, offering space to Magalini, D'Heer and Pace who fully played their part. After a dominant first set, Trentino Itas suffered the Slovenians' comeback in the second and had to fight tooth and nail in the fourth, but in the end they were awarded the full victory thanks to 28 points scored by Rychlicki (MVP and best scorer of the match once again tonight with 66% at the net, 3 blocks and 2 aces), but also thanks to the efforts of Magalini (good performance in his first big match: 14 points, 64% at the net) and, more generally, good blocks (scoring 10 times, always in the most important moments of the match).

Below is the scoreboard of the 2024 CEV Champions League Pool B first round match played Thursday evening at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento.
