Coppa Italia, Itas Trentino succumbs at the tie break against Monza in first Semifinal

Itas Trentino’s dream of playing the Del Monte® Coppa Italia Final for the third consecutive season was shattered in the fifth set of the Saturday afternoon match against Monza at the Unipol Arena. The first semifinal of the weekend in Emilia saw the Brianzoli impose themselves at the tie break, forcing the Italian Champions to stop their path in the competition already in the first of the two days of the Final Four in Emilia.
During the match Trento offered moments of good volleyball (especially in the initial part of the first set and for a good part of the third and fourth partial), alternating with others marked by dangerous blackouts that allowed the opponents to climb the slope twice (on 1-0, winning the second fraction clearly, and on 2-1, securing the fourth period at the sprint), before becoming absolute masters of the court during the fifth and decisive partial. Despite an inaccurate showing at the net (14 direct errors in attack) and a lacklustre service, the yellow-blue team had nevertheless managed to bring themselves within a few steps of a possible 3-1 victory. At 21-17, however, the Mint managed to diametrically reverse the situation, signing a resounding comeback thanks to a 2-8 partial that cut off the legs of Soli's team. Rychlicki's 21 points (as many as Loeppky scored on the other side of the net), Lavia's spurts (17 with 4 blocks) and a block that often compensated for the difficulties of the attack (40%) were not enough to overcome the opponents. The same ones that in seven days will be faced again for the next round of the championship (17th round of SuperLega, Saturday, February 3 in Monza).
