The dream of returning to raise the Del Monte® Italian Cup right in Assago, where at the end of December 2012 had won the last victory in this event, it vanishes in the final for Diatec Trentino. As it happened thirteen months ago in Bologna, also in this edition the Italian champions have in fact had to bow to the outgoing champions of DHL Modena in the deciding match at the Mediolanum Forum.
The Emilian have repeated the victory of the previous edition, dominating from the beginning of the game thanks to a good ensemble game distributed by Bruno and optimally designed by Vettori (MVP and best scorer with 19 points, two blocks and 63% in attack), Ngapeth (16 with 78%) and Saatkamp (11 with 67%), among other things, doing little mistakes by the net (only one error). Facing this shock wave, Trento tried to replicate mainly in the first part of the opening set and throughout the second one, lost only for 22-25, before giving space to the opponents in the third and final period, which has been won hands down by DHL. Among the ranks of the tricolor only Djuric in double figures (11 balls on the ground with 43%), a clear sign of how Modena has been able to bring great pressure to the attackers of Diatec. Playing another final of the maximum national trophy after eliminating from the race a team such as Lube - that earlier in the season and even on the eve of the Final Four, arguably enjoyed greater consideration - is in any case a specific merit to Lanza and teammates, who from Tuesday will focus only on Super League and Champions League.
"Matches like these must be analyzed well and never forget them” - said after the game the coach of Diatec Trentino Radostin Stoytchev -. “To understand the reasons for a defeat like this it could be an opportunity for growth in order to work even better in the gym in the future. Modena tonight was almost perfect and basically didn’t allow us to ever play, congratulations to our opponents. From our part, we did bad services, never managing to express the volleyball that we know how to play on the field; we went in trouble too early. There are other important goals this season and will try to hit them going back to train hard as soon as next week”.
Curiously, the two teams will meet again and against each other already on Thursday, February 11th at the PalaPanini of Modena for the postponement of the seventeenth round of the regular season Super League UnipolSai 2015/16: the kick-off is scheduled at 8.30 pm, broadcasted live on RAI Sport 1 and Radio Dolomiti.
