Trento, January 14th, 2016
Diatec Trentino has to suffer until the fourth set before completing the well started work in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Del Monte® Italian Cup 2016. Yielding at tie-break in the home match against Molfetta, tonight the Italian champions have indeed lost their unbeaten season at PalaTrento, but they still have gained the pass for the ninth Final Four of Italian Cup in their history - the seventh consecutive - mainly thanks to the 3-0 obtained three weeks ago in Puglia.
To get the first prestigious result of 2016, the Italian champions needed cold blood and a lot of patience, in a challenge that has gradually complicated highlighting the imperfect physical condition and technique of the Yellow-blues. The illusion of managing the game against Molfetta has in fact lasted only one set, the first was won hands down; then the match became a real battle with no holds barred in which the Exprivia has been shown to have clarity and character to sign with a 29-27 double the advantage that has shaken the hosts. In the most difficult moment Djuric (24 points with 2 aces) and captain Lanza (15 with 50%, two blocks and two service point) thought to be saved by the bell. In the tie-break the will of the guests to still gather a prestigious result has got the better of a Diatec Trentino more experienced opponents: the victory number 300 of Stoytchev management (today in the stands for the last two-match ban) was then postponed at least for the next weekend.
The appointment to the fans for the continuation of the journey in the competition is instead at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago on February 6th, when the Italian Champions will play the semifinals against Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata which in that circumstance will try to confirm again as finalists, as happened a year ago in Bologna.
