Diatec Trentino has played all the friendly matches before the Final Four of Del Monte® Italian SuperCup 2016 and the victory of the first “Trofeo Citta’ di Villafranca”, a four-team competition between teams from SuperLega played this weekend in Villafranca, seems to be very auspicious.
In order to come first in the tournament organized for the inauguration of the Palasport of Villafranca, the team of Angelo Lorenzetti has won for the third time in this pre-championship period against LPR Piacenza. But in this occasion the victory has been clearer thanks to the growing physical condition, the increasing technique-tactics of the team and because the opposing team had many defections; this forced the team to borrow the opposite Gabriele Nelli from Trentino Volley.
Without Hernandez, Zlatanov, Marshall, Manià and Yosifov (at rest for precautionary reasons) and without Poey, in order to play and give the right exhibition to the 1,500 spectators (sold out), Alberto Giuliani has been forced to borrow the Tuscan opposite from Trentino Volley, who played against his team with a positive performance (17 points, like Stokr, 2 blocks and 2 aces) but without being able to completely stop the Yellow-Blue victory. The team of Lorenzetti confirmed its strength in attack (an overall 64%) with Lanza (67%) and Antonov (64%) chosen in place of Urnaut. Also the performances of Daniele Mazzone (5 blocks, 100 %) and of the libero Chiappa, to his first match at this level as a regular player, have been great.
