Two consecutive aces upset the balance on 13-13, during the last and endless set on Friday evening at Kioene Arena in Padua: thanks to the personal performance of the captain Filippo Lanza in the most important moment of the match, Diatec Trentino was able to conquer the third victory in a row in SuperLega. In this way, number 10 of Trentino Volley registered an amazing performance, winning the mvp award thanks to a total of 21 personal points, 56% of attacks, two blocks and three aces plus to the last two points he scored.
“If we consider the way we won the match, it’s a night to be remembered. I scored two fundamental aces because I could feel the energy and the confidence of the whole team; with all my strength I played a service and things went well – explained the captain speaking at the microphones of Radio Dolomiti at the end of the match- . Modern Volleyball is based on this kind of fundamentals which is deeply connected with the opponents’ reception. This is what Padua used to cause us real problems; we must give the opposing team credit, but to our team too, because we were able to suffer, to stay on the ball even in the worst moment of the match: the field change during the tie break, as we were losing 3-8 and then 6-10. Besides, we have to thank Tine Urnaut for that excellent 9-metre rotation that let us balance the score. We also have to congratulate Nelli on the two aces he scored at the end of the first set as he has just begun to play. The whole team wanted an important score and this is what we have achieved, even if we have suffered. I’m convinced that Kioene, especially in home games, can create problems not only to our team but also to other; we have won with an advantage of two points, during the tie break and this demonstrate how this SuperLega is balanced and exciting”.
“We needed a victory to leave for Brazil being more aware of our resources – added Lanza - . From Monday we will have to think of World Club Cup and we’ll have to be able not to give up as we did in Padua. In Betim, we’ll suffer a lot because the teams we are going to challenge in the first phase are strong, especially in the services. In my opinion, with the team-game we have shown in the first matches we can have our say till the end”.
