For the last game in Brazil, Angelo Lorenzetti decides to modify the usual starting six, he fields Diatec Trentino with Giannelli as setter, Nelli as opposite, Urnaut and Antonov in area 4, Van de Voorde and Solé as middle blockers, Colaci as libero. Bolivar replies with Chirivino as setter, Edgar as opposite, Aleksiev and Almeida in area 4, Gauna and Crer as middle blockers, Gonzalez as libero. The beginning is balanced but Trento takes advantage with a block by Urnaut (2-0) and defends until 9-7 when Edgar ties the game (9-9). The central period of the set is particularly hard-fought, with both teams taking the lead (13-14 and then 17-16), but three yellow-blue blocks in a row, by Giannelli and Urnaut, gives a considerable advantage (19-16). Bolivar tries to come back but it is too late (from 24-20 to 24-22) and Diatec Trentino wins the set 25-22 with a first time attack by Daniele Mazzone.
The Argentines try to change gear at the start of the second set thanks to service and block; at 0-4 Lorenzetti is forced to spend a time out and the answer of his players is exceptional: Nelli and Antonov (ace) are inspired and immediately reach the 4-4. With the Tuscan opposite in great form, Diatec Trentino gets to 8-6 but Bolivar doesn’t back down and succeeds in reaching the opponents to 10-10. Just as happened in the precedent set, the central part is very balanced (13-13); Aleksiev scores the South American +2 (13-15), then it is Crer to block his compatriot Solé and increase the advantage (16-20). Diatec Trentino doesn’t give up and gets to 23-24 with Antonov and a net error from Gauna, without anyway containing Edgar, that score the 23-25 and gets his team to 1-1.
The situation doesn’t get better in the third set, with Bolivar always to command (2-5 and then 7-10) and Diatec Trentino to struggle trying to succeed in attack phase. Edgar is unchained and gets his team to a further advantage (8-13), also taking advantage of Nelli’s net difficulties. Lorenzetti decides then to let Stokr and Lanza enter the field (replacing Antonov), and this is a decisive movement because the team starts being on fire with Mazzone at service (14-15) and Jan in attack phase. Diatec Trentino gets 17-16 and then has the best in the final rush to the sprint for 25-23, also taking advantage of the many errors of Edgar himself.
The match is very balanced also in the fourth set, fraction in which Diatec Trentino chases the opponents for a long time (5-7 and then 9-10), before overcoming Bolivar with Stokr and Urnaut (13-11). Crer succeeds in getting the situation in parity with a great block on Stokr and then Aleksiev scores and brings Bolivar to 14-15. Stokr and Lanza fail in attack phase (16-19) : it seems the prelude to the tie-break but before conquering it, Bolivar must suffer for a long time, because Giannelli and his teammates actually recover the situation to 23-23 and then they surrender to the sixth side-out with an error from Urnaut (29-31).
The tie-break is the exact copy of the match: Diatec Trentino escapes to 5-3, before suffering and getting reached by Bolivar on 5-8 that puts the Italian team in an uncomfortable situation. Giannelli scores the break that is worth the 9-10 (time out Weber); Trento overcomes Bolivar with Nelli after having annulled a match ball to the opponents and decisive is Urnaut’s ace for the victory (17-15).
