Betim (Brazil), October 23th 2016

1.098 days since last time (2013), Trentino Volley steps up again to the podium in the Club World Championship. The vice champions of Europe ended tonight with a win and the consequent bronze medal their road in the 2016 Club World Championship. This time was an hard-won victory 3-2 against Bolivar in the third place consolation game.
The seventh participation in the World's most important tournament for the yellow-blue comes  to a favourable conclusion with another international prestigious placing after the four wins between 2009 and 2012 in Doha (Qatar) and the same result reached three years before in Betim.
In today's match Diatec Trentino showed it was able to turn the page after the loss in the semifinal against Kazan. For long periodes during the match (like in the first, third and fifth set) the yellow-blue played technically and tactically well, but also with great competitive spirit and even when they had more difficulties (like in the second and fourth set and at the beginning of the tie break), they keep calm showing a great mental strenght. Third place was achieved thanks to all the potentialities of the squad, Lorenzetti alternates different players, finding the right tactics to win particularly in the fifth and conclusive set. As happened against Padua, down 7-10 during the last set, Lanza and his teammates move up a gear and win 17-15. In more than two hours of match the team play well in defense and with the blocks (12 direct blocks, six by Urnaut – yellow-blue top scorer with 19 points – and 4 by Giannelli) and the convincing performance by Nelli (48%, regular player for three sets), Lanza (moved in from the bench and made 12 winning attack with 52%) and  by the only Argentinian on the yellow-blue side, Solé (11 with 67%).
Here is the table of the third place playoff of the CWC 2016 played this afteroon at Ginàsio Poliesportivo Divino Braga in Betim.
