Betim (Brazil), October 18th 2016

Tomorrow, Wednesday 19th October, the seventh adventure of Trentino Volley in the Club World Championship will start. This event takes place again in Brazil, in Betim (also location for the editions 2013 and 2015). Diatec Trentino will play only from the second day (the first match will be played today), confronting with the home team Minas Tenis Clube in the match valid for the Pool B of the first phase. At the Ginásio Poliesportivo Divino Braga, location for all the matches, the match will start at 8.30 p.m. Italian hour (4.30 p.m. local hour); live tv on Fox Sport HD.

HERE DIATEC TRENTINO The invitation of the FIVB let Trentino Volley to play again, after 2 years and a half from the last time, in an event, which is very important for the Club in via Trener. The victories between 2009 and 2012 in Qtar and the third place in 2013 in Betim made famous the yellow-blue team all over the world. The team has a big number of supporters in Brazil, as demonstrated in the last days on the Social Networks and from the big demand for photos and autographs in the first hours in Belo Horizonte. The participation in the edition 2016 seems to be difficult; Angelo Lorenzetti’s team is in a hard round, with rivals all from South America, and the debut will be a huge test, because the team will confront the home team Minas Tenis Clube. “It’s a very difficult match, but we are here for this – states Diatec Trentino’s coach - ; we’ll have the opportunity to play against big teams and we could measure our value every day, match after match. The first appointment with the home team is a high-level match: Minas is a team with very good players in the attack and as alternatives to the regulars. We trained a lot and we want to rule from the beginning”.

Trentino has trained for the first time in the Brazilian area this morning, at Ginasio Poliesportivo Divino Braga; the session helped to know the structure and to clarify the last doubts about the regulars, taking into account that in the last weeks three middle hitters (Solé, Van de Voorse and Daniele Mazzone) and two opposite hitters (Stokr and Nelli) interchanged each other. The staff can count on all the players on disposal; in the list of the fourteen players delivered to the Fivb on Monday evening, eight players have never played in a Club World Championship: the opposite hitter Nelli, the spikers Antonov and Urnaut, the setters Giannelli and Blasi, the middle hitters Daniele Mazzone and Van de Voorde, the libero Chiappa. All the others took part at least in one Club World Championship and the most “expert” is Massimo Colaci: five participations, 23 presences on the field.

TRENTINO VOLLEY’S HISTORY IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS The edition starting on Wednesday in Brazil will be the seventh adventure for Trentino Volley in the Club World Championship. The team won four Championships (November 8th 2009, December 21th 2010, October 14th 2011 and October 19th 2012 – all in Doha) and gained the third place (Betim 2013) with 25 victories in 28 matches. Only in the edition 2014 (ended in the fifth place) Trento didn’t positioned in the first three places. FIVB Club World Championship 2016 is the 17th extra-national event in the history of the Club in via Trener: it took part in seven Champions Leagues (three victories between 2009 and 2011), it played twice in Europe in the season 2004/05, first in Top Teams Cup (eliminated by the Netherlanders of Ortec Nesselande Rotterdam in the prelaminar phase played at PalaTrento) and in CEV Cup, eliminated by the Turkish Ankara, and in the season 2015/16 it played in CEV Cup (second place after Moscow). The yellow-blue team will take part in this event (CEV Cup) again this year. In total, Trentino Volley’s matches played in international events are 122, 102 of which won and 20 lost. In 80 matches outside the national borders, only 16 were a defeat.
THE ADVERSARIES As Club organizing the event,  Minas Tenis Clube focused all its efforts of the last period on the international review, sacrificing also the final of the last Minas Gerais’s Championship (the state which belongs the district Belo Horizonte), lost against Sada Cruzeiro saving some effectives. The Male volleyball team is one of the important Sport Clubs  of the country with well-developed sectors also in a sport like basketball, soccer with 5 players, swimming, judo and tennis as the name says.  The volleyball sector still remains one of the most important, taking into consideration that Minas works at high levels in this discipline since the ‘70s. The team is, by the way, one of the few ones to have taken part to the male Brazilian SuperLiga since the championship was born (1994/95 season). It counts 7 national awards (the only Club to have won so many), but the last success dates to 2006/07 when teams from San Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and above all the cousins of Sada Cruzeiro ( winner of the last four awards and achieved the Pool A of the Club World Championship 2016) gained the scene. At an international level it can boast two victories in a row in two South American championships (1984 and 1985).
The protagonist of the new team, trained by Nery Tambeiro, are the opposite Bisset (recently injured but still in the list of players that will play) the setter Gelinski and the expert spiker Fuchs (good in the diagonal line for the setter). Usually, the other official players are the spiker Wesz, the middle-blockers Silva and De Jesus and the libero Rogerio. Minas Tenis Clube’s team: 1. Maique Reis (l), 2. Eduardo Sobrinho (p), 4. Rogerio Batista Carvalho Filho (l), 5. Tiago Wesz (s), 5. Bruno Felicio De Jesus (c), 7. Thiago Gelinski (p), 8. Willian Cesar Coelho Rabel (s), 9. Samuel Fuchs (s), 10. Thiago Vanole Nogueira Silva (s), 13. Flavio Gualberto (c), 14. Yordan Bisset Astengo (o), 16. Gabriel Franco (s), 17. Petrus Silva (c), 20. Aboubacar Dramè Neto (o). Coach Tambeir Nery Pereira.
FORMULA The matches scheduled today and tomorrow will inaugurate the first phase which will see the eight teams participating and representing four out five of the world’s continents divided in two brackets (Pool A e Pool B) of four teams each one . They will fight each other in a one way Italian bracket (Round Robin) with a total amount of 12 matches. The first two ranked in the first phase will go to the semifinals (scheduled on October 22nd, the finals will be played the next day). The third and fourth ones of each ranking will be directly canceled  and will be ranked in accordance with the placement in the Pool, fifth and sixth. The attribution of the points is just like the Italian championship: three points for the victory in four sets, two points for winning the tie break and one point for the defeat at the fifth set, but the most important thing will be the number of victories.
In case of the victory of two teams in the final ranking , will be considered: numbers of points, set quotient, points quotient, head-to-head. The table, where teams with the same total points, will be drafte only if there are three or four teams with the same scoring.

REFEREES FIVB appointed the eight referees that will umpire the sixteen matches; still to be announced the couple of referees who will arbitrate each match, it is likely that this information will only be given shortly before every match. Among the referees: Fabrizio Pasquali (Italy), Shin Muranaka (Japan), Luis Gerardo Macias (Mexico), Josmer Perez Broche (Puertorico), Nasr Shaaban (Egypt), Mohammad Shahmiri (Iran), Rogerio Epicalsky (Brazil), Andrey Zenovich (Russia).
