Trento, 11th September 2016
The certainty, which came on Thursday morning, of the partecipation to the Club World Cup 2016 has these days allowed Trentino Volley and some players of its actual team to remind great memories of the recent past.
The Diatec Trentino, which will be in Betim in mid-October to hunt the fifth world title in its history, will in fact count on four athletes who had already become world champions with the yellow-blue team: the libero Massimo Colaci and the opposite Jan Stokr (both present in triumphs in 2010, 2011 and 2012), the spiker Lanza and the middle blocker Matteo Burgsthaler, who not only won the gold medal in the editions of 2011 and 2012, but also won, like Max, the bronze one in 2013.
“I have great personal memories about Club World Cup” - highlights on Trentino Volley TV Matteo Burgsthaler, the only trentino player who has become world champion with the team of his city - “the day when the confirmation of our presence in 2016 edition came was inevitable to feel great joy and happiness. I've been lucky enough to be able to play four editions of this competition and, from the first time in 2011, I understood the high value of the tournament and the extraordinary stage on which we played. From 2012, the emotions have become even stronger: from winning the fourth consective title in Doha with the opportunity to offer my contribution on the field, to the third-place finish in Betin in 2013 with my personal award for best middle blocker: unforgettable moments. This is also why, for me, the Club World Cup will never be an event like many others. It's an event where you can't afford a single mistake and our team has to figure it out as soon as possible, since we have been placed in a competitive round with three South American teams. I think that the call for Trentino Volley has come because both FIVB and the organizers wanted to raise the technical level of the tournament. It will be a good test of all of us.”
“It's great to be working with Angelo Lorenzetti, because he is a coach who is in many ways different from the ones I already worked with. - continued the middle blocker from Villazzano talking about the first month of preparation with his new coach. - It is too early too look at the results but I feel good and I love to train this way. If I keep playing is because I still want to improve my skills and having a guide who encourages you to change your technique or your way of moving on the field is very interesting and motivating. The test match won last Wednesday versus Piacenza showed that we can play at high levels and we can aspire to great results. Piacenza players came from a very busy time, and even more so being able to perform a come back from 0-1 to 3-1 mainly using the technique and tactics is definetely great".
The match versus LPR will be repeated on Wednesday 14th September at PalaTrento (kick-off at approximately 18 hours – free admission) in the first and only test match at PalaTrento before the start of the season.
