Defined this morning in Bologna at the end of three days of 2016 Volleyball Market organized by Lega Volley, the calendar of 72° Serie A1 Superleague UnipolSai (2016/17 season).
Diatec Trentino will begin its run at PalaTrento on Sunday, October 2nd against Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia fresh of readmission to the top flight; a circumstance that will match the start of the 2012/13 season, however, when Trento was defeated by 1-3 in front of their home crowd. The first trip is scheduled on October 9th, on the ground of newly promoted Sora; the first challenge with a big team will be played on October 23rd in Piacenza and will be followed soon after by the home match with Perugia (on October 29th). The derby of the Adige with Verona will take place at the ninth day (on November 9th), the A22 with Modena in the eleventh round (on November 20th at PalaPanini).
The dates: the absolute season debut will take place during the Italian Super Cup 2016, which this year will adopt the Final Four formula, to be played between Saturday 24th and Sunday, September 25th (place yet to be determined). The regular season will develop in five months between October 2nd and March 5th (date of the last day). Four are the midweek rounds expected: on October 19th (fourth day), on November 9th (the ninth day), on December 29th (Seventeenth day), on February 8th (twenty-second day); during the holiday season there will be a match also on December 26th. The Italian Cup 2017, again will change its formula involving twelve instead of eight teams; on Wednesday 14th and Thursday, December 15th will be played the second round that will see on the field the teams ranked between fifth and twelfth place after the first leg round of the regular season. The teams that will win the home race of the top ranked ones, will then play in the quarter-final away against the top four between Wednesday 11th and Thursday, January 12th. The Final Four will be played between Saturday 28th and Sunday, January 29th.
The first eight classified at the end of the regular season will access the playoffs Championship, which will compete in the quarter finals (best of three races); semifinals and finals will expect instead conducting five games. Will begin on Wednesday, March 9th with Game 1 of the quarterfinals and will end on Wednesday, May 16th (possible date of Game 5).
The television rights of the Championship, finally, will be for the next two seasons still the prerogative of RAI Sports, which will broadcast again two weekend matches: an advance on Friday evening (at 8.30 pm) and a Sunday always at the same time (5:30 pm). All races not spread from state television will be visible in live streaming on the League Volleyball Channel (www.sportube.tv), which from the 2016/17 season will offer its service with a subscription of a very low cost.
