Trento, 21st July 2017

Some statistic curiosities after the formalisation of the calendar of regular season of SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/18.

DEBUT AT HOME AGAINST MILAN AS HAPPENED IN SEASON 2002/2003 The first match against Milan at PalaTrento is nothing new for Trentino Volley: in season 2002/2003 the first match was against a team from Milan (Asystel, a different Club than Revivre). The memory is particularly pleasant because on that occasion (on October 26th 2002) the Club won for 3-1. In the two previous seasons (2000/01 and 2001/02) Trento had always lost the first match.
IT IS THE THIRTEENTH TIME THAT WE START THE SEASON AT PALATRENTO Playing the first match of the season in front of the yellow-blue supporters has become a beautiful habit for Trentino Volley. It had already happened twelve times out of seventeen participations: in addition to season 2002/03 mentioned above, there are season 2004/05 (defeat for 1-3 against Perugia), 2005/06 (victory for 3-0 against Padova), 2006/07 (ko at tie break against Taranto), 2008/09 (victory in three sets against Forlì), 2009/10 (3-1 against Latina), 2010/11 (victory for 3-0 against Castellana Grotte), 2011/12 (victory for 3-0 against Monza), 2012/13 (defeat for 1-3 against Vibo), 2013/14 (victory in five sets against Latina), 2014/15 (3-0 against Padova) and 2016/17 (3-0 against Vibo).
IN TEN OCCASIONS VICTORY IN THE FIRST MATCH The debut in regular season gave Trentino Volley ten victories out of seventeen occasions: in addition to the nine home victories mentioned above, there is the victory obtained on October 28th 2015 in Monza the first day of regular season 2015/16. That was the only victory away from Trento in a debut match; in the four other cases Trento was always defeated.
SIX MID-WEEK ROUNDS In the calendar of SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/18 there are five mid-week rounds for Trentino Volley on working days: on 25th October (third match in Ravenna), on 4th January (fifteenth match at home against Padua), on 10th January (seventeenth match in Castellana Grotte), on 7th February (twentieth match against Latina) and on 21st February (twenty-fourth match at home against Vibo). There is a match scheduled for 1st November (fifth match, against Civitanova) that will be played on a public holiday.
FIRST AWAY MATCH IN PADUA AS HAPPENED IN 2011/12 On 22nd October 2017 Diatec Trentino will play its first away match of SuperLega UnipolSai against Kioene Padova, as happened in the season 2011/12 at palasport in San Lazzaro. It was a positive occasion: on 28th September 2011, victory for 3-0 against the team from Padua with sponsor Fidia at that time.
ONLY BIG MATCHES IN NOVEMBER There aren’t many matches scheduled for November, but it will nevertheless be an important month for Trentino Volley and its fans. Between Wednesday 1st and Sunday 26th November the team of Lorenzetti will play against four out of the five teams of the final ranking of last season; in chronological order Civitanona, Verona, Perugia and Piacenza, in addition to Latina.
BOXING DAY AT PALATRENTO As happened in the previous season, PalaTrento will once again host a volleyball match on Boxing Day. In fact, there is the thirteenth match of regular season scheduled for 26th December 2017 against Gi Group Monza. This match will ensure great show to the fans also during the Christmas holidays. In the past, the sports centre of via Fersina had host official matches on the day after Christmas also in 2005 (Trento-Verona 3-1), 2010 (Trento-Treviso 3-0), 2012 (Trento-Perugia 3-1, quarterfinal of Coppa Italia) and in 2016 (Trento-Padova 3-1).
LAST MATCH OF REGULAR SEASON IN MONZA, AS HAPPENED IN LAST SEASON Trentino Volley will end its regular season at Palazzetto dello Sport in Monza, as already happened in the previous season. The match will be played on March 4th, less than one year after the 3-0 (it was on 27th February 2016) in Monza that concluded the yellow-blue season 2016/17.
NEAR AND FAR AWAY MATCHES The nearest away match for Diatec Trentino is Verona: 90 kilometres that the Yellow-blues and their supporters will cover on 21st January for the nineteenth match of regular season. The farthest away match will be against Vibo Valentia: over 900 kilometres that will be covered by bus, airplane and bus on December 10th (exactely one year after the last precedent at PalaValentia) and that will be followed by the away match against Sora seven days after (on December 17th, second-to-last going match), another long journey.
