The run of 10 consecutive wins for ENERGY T.I. Diatec Trentino in the SuperLega UnipolSai comes to an end. This evening Stoytchev’s team suffered a defeat at Molfetta’s PalaPoli against an Exprivia Neldiritto who confirmed all the positive things that have been said about them recently. The 2-3 defeat recorded in Puglia, in the furthest away game of the regular season, means that the yellow and blues lose first place in the league, falling to second, two points behind Modena (who beat Monza in three sets and now top the table).
On the Adriatic coast, Stoytchev’s team struggled to find any continuity in their game, playing an excellent first and fourth set but suffering a lot in reception and in defense in the others against a team for whom everything was going right, especially with their service game and with two high-ball players (Torres and Sket) who were unbeatable in the crucial moments. The pride showed in the fifth set, fighting back to 13-13 after being behind by up to three points, but it wasn’t enough to achieve another comeback: Hierrezuelo, who was the mvp, was able to lead the attack well even after the nerve-racking battle for the lead. The yellow and blues had to console themselves with one point, mainly thanks to Lanza who had an excellent match (25 points with 62% in offence) and the good moments from the block of the middle blocker pairing of Birarelli-Lanza and from Kaziyski ( 4 each), with the Bulgarian also having an excellent serve match. The youngster Giannelli also put in a good performance and showed no fear, taking Zygadlo’s place as the setter from the second set; the South Tyrolean came away with 5 points and crucially, a lot more experience at this level.
