Italian champions back in Trento today late afternoon. In less than eighteen hours after the great statement in Belgium in the CEV Champions League, on the field of Noliko Maaseik, Trentino Diatec has indeed returned to the city after a bus trip from the Flemish town and Eindhoven, and then by plain from the Dutch airport to Bergamo and finally back by bus to Trento. The team will leave again on Saturday to arrive in Piacenza (on Sunday at PalaBanca, the fifteenth round of the Super League).
The 3-0 trimmed to one of the most prestigious Belgian formations has been a major achievement not only to get the first place in Pool C of the Champions League final, but also to provide further signs of growth of the team ahead of a February full of key appointments. Among the most positive signs there is the great performance of Van de Voorde who has been a star on that field for four seasons in the past, and now scored dizzying percentages in attack (70% in ten shots) and four winning blocks for a total of 11 points: only Djuric (15) has been able to do better.
"For me to play in Maaseik meant to go back home, because I could count on personal cheering of sixty people who have come from my country to the Lotto Dome on purpose to cheer for us” - he said leaving his Belgium Simon. - ”I wanted to win but also to play well because for me it will always be a particular match; objectively I did not think we could get a 3-0 so easy but we did well to take full advantage from the opponent’s mistakes; an attitude of a great team. The first goal was reached and this position will allow us to enjoy an easier draw, we are obviously pleased with everything; if I could choose, in the next Champions round I would play against the Asse-Lennik. It would be an opportunity to return a second time in Belgium in a few weeks and see my family…”
"The understanding with teammates grows, especially the one with the setters and I am particularly happy because the first part of the season I struggled to express myself because of the incident's aftermath to the ankle in the playoffs championship last season” - said Van de Voorde speaking of his time. - ”I am not yet at the best shape but I'm growing and I feel more comfortable in this team; Maaseik played well the attack in the first half but also the block. I hope to continue like this and take full days of training and matches that still lies ahead before the Final Four of Italian Cup. I look forward to that moment”.
