Trento, 18th April 2017

Match 4 of semi-final play-offs Scudetto UnipolSai 2017 is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday April 19th. For the second time in this series Diatec Trentino will play at PalaEvangelisti, trying to win a match that will allow it to qualify for the final. The match will start at 8.30 p.m.: live broadcast on RAI Sport + HD and Radio Dolomiti.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After the European adventure, the yellow-blue team focuses its attention again on Scudetto, facing the second and last away game in the region of Umbria; its main goal is to forget the unlucky second match of 2017 CEV Cup played on Saturday night in France and to try to qualify for another final during this season (this would be the third one out of five different competitions in which it has taken part). A potential victory will allow Lanza and its team-mates to close the series of matches of semi-final, taking advantage of the first opportunity to qualify for the last phase of this tournament. “After the disappointment for the outcome of the final in Tours, we have to be able to move forward, and not only in words – explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti -. We want to transform the disappointment we experienced last weekend in something positive, that can inspire us to play in the right way this important match. I hope this can be a balanced match as in the case of the first three games of the series. In fact, in the previous match that took place in Perugia, although we lost the match we struggled till the end. If we will be able to do so in this case too, we’ll have our chances”. The yellow-blue team has left for Perugia with all its players in the early afternoon. On Wednesday morning at PalaEvangelisti it will train for the usual finishing touches before the match; Match 4 will be the 52nd seasonal match for Trentino Volley, the 30th away match. Until this moment the team from Trento has collected seventeen victories and twelve defeats in these type of matches. Last success conquered in an away match dates back to March 8th (victory in three sets in Monza). For the Club of via Trener this is going to be match number 99 of its whole history in the play-offs Scudetto (a total of 62 victories and 37 defeats), number 34 in semi-finals, in which it has registered a total of 21 victories and 12 defeats.
THE OPPONENTS Sir Safety Conad Perugia is waiting for the second home match against Diatec Trentino in the series of semi-final and it absolutely needs to win this game to avoid to lose on Wednesday evening its opportunity to win the Italian championship. Atanasijevic and his team-mates, who on April 29th will play against Civitanova in the semi-final of CEV Champions League in Rome, will try to conquer the point that will allow them to tie the score in the series and return in Trento during the weekend in the potential and decisive Match 5. To do so, they will rely on home court advantage; PalaEvangelisti, where the home team hasn’t lost a match since February 5th (1-3 against Lube), is expected to register a sold-out. Coach Lorenzo Bernardi can’t count on Russell (out until the end of the season), but he can field Birarelli, who has already played for a couple of minutes in the match of Sunday April 9th.
THE PRECEDENTS At PalaEvangelisti will take place the nineteenth challenge between Sir Safety Conad Perugia and Diatec Trentino. Even if the two teams have started facing each other relatively late (first match dates back to 7th November 2011), they experienced several significant moments: besides the current semi-final, in the past they played another semi-final Scudetto (edition 2015 with the yellow-blue victory by 2-1) and a semi-final and quarter-finals of Coppa Italia (edition 2015 and 2013). On all occasions Trentino Volley was successful, and even in the total amount of victories the team from Trento exceeds its opponents by 13-5. However, at PalaEvangelisti the home team was able to conquer 4 matches as compared with the 3 games collected by Trentino Volley: Sir Safety Perugia has won all home matches since 28th April 2015 (a 3-1 victory in Match 2 of semi-final play-offs). Last time in which Trentino Volley won at PalaEvangelisti dates back to 26th October 2014 (3-2 with the great performance of Kaziyski). The couple of seasonal matches played in the region of Umbria ended with a victory of the home team: 3-0 with the partial results 25-23, 25-15, 25-22 in regular season on January 15th and 3-1 in Match 2 of semi-final on March 25th.
THE SERIES Diatec Trentino leads 2-1 the semifinal series, thanks to the double 3-1 victories gained at PalaTrento on the 19th of March (partial 16-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22) and on the 9th of April (28-26, 30-28, 22-25, 25-21) and the defeat, always in four sets on the 25th of March in Perugia (30-28, 20-25, 25, 19, 25-22). On Wednesday game 4, that could be the last of the series only if Lozenzetti's team wins. If Sir Safety Conad wins, it will also be played game 5. In this case the match will be played at PalaTrento on Saturday the 22nd of April at 6 p.m. or 8.30 p.m. . The team that will get to the Final (this is also a best of five series and will start on the 25th of April) will meet the winner of the other semifinal Civitanova-Modena, in a series lead by Civitanova for 2-1 (on Wednesday at PalaPanini game 4).
THE REFEREES The match will be refereed by Daniele Rapisarda (first referee, from Udine) and Mauro Goitre, second referee, from Torino; the same pair who already refereed together a match between Trento and Perugia: the one played on 29th October at PalaTrento that ended with a 3-2 win for Trento. Rapisarda, in Serie A since 2002 and international since 2011, will referee his eighteen match of the season in SuperLega; he already refereed Trentino Volley in the tie break win in Coppa Italia 2017 semifinal against Modena (28th January in Bologna). Goitre, referee since 2008 and international since 2016, will referee the fifteen match of the seasons; he refereed Trento in the defeat against Civitanova the last 29th of January in the Coppa Italia final in Bologna.
