It will be played tomorrow evening, on Thursday, January 14th, the second leg of the four quarter-finals 38th edition of Del Monte® Italian Cup. After the 3-0 victory in the first leg match on December 22nd, Diatec Trentino awaits the visit of Exprivia Molfetta for the first official match of 2016. The team that will pass the round, will qualify for the Final Four, scheduled on February 6th-7th, 2016 at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago (Milan). The kick-off is scheduled at 8.30 pm, broadcasted live on Radio Dolomiti and on www.sportube.tv, League Volleyball Channel.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After three weeks without official matches, the Italian champions are ready to inaugurate the new year with a knockout match. To detach the pass for the seventh consecutive appearance in the Final Four of the trophy, Lanza and his teammates must necessarily win at least two sets; as in the first leg match, Radostin Stoytchev once again will not sit on the bench due to a suspension (in place to direct the team there will be the second Dario Simoni) and doesn’t concern too much at the result of the first leg and asks his boys a victory, which would allow the Bulgarian coach to reach the 300th success in 360 matches under his management of Trentino Volley. "It will be a special match, to be prepared very carefully, because it comes after an extended period without competitive games and after a couple of weeks of training where for different reasons we could never train with the entire team” - says the coach of Diatec Trentino. -”Molfetta has already shown to be able to really put us in great difficulty and I’m sure that tomorrow evening they will play all their cards without thinking too much about the score. Therefore we must have a very determined mental approach to the challenge if we want to win and qualify for the semifinals."
Trento will be at full performance for the first home of 2016: Van de Voorde and Bratoev have worked with the group since last Monday; they returned to the city on Saturday, after taking part in Berlin at Olympic qualifying tournament with their national teams. Before the match, the nineteenth seasonal one and the 630° ever for Trentino Volley, Diatec Trentino will do two more workouts in PalaTrento: one today afternoon and one tomorrow morning between 11.00 am and 12:30 pm.
In the Trentino roster the player who has played the greatest number of editions of the Italian Cup is Massimo Colaci, who is signing his sixth participation, followed by Filippo Lanza (the fifth one). The absolute newcomers are the middle-blocker Daniele Mazzone, the setter Georgi Bratoev and the libero Carlo De Angelis. Three Yellow-blues have already won the competition: Lanza (2), Colaci (2) and Djuric (2).
THE FORMULA OF THE DEL MONTE® ITALIAN CUP 2016 The top eight ranked teams at the end of the first round will dispute the quarterfinals Final with return matches; to enact the four teams that will access the Final Four on February 6th-7th, it applies the same settlement of Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League. In case of a victory and the same amount of points (successes at most in four sets provide 3 points to the winner and 0 to the loser, while the tie-break distributes 2 points to the winner and 1 to the loser), at the end of the match of tomorrow evening will be held, therefore, a partial additional playoff at 15. Tomorrow evening, at the same time of Trento vs. Molfetta, it will also be played Perugia vs. Verona (first leg 3-2), Modena vs. Monza (3-2) and Lube-Latina (3 -0).
DIATEC TRENTINO QUALIFIES TO THE FINAL FOUR IF... To pass the turn the Yellow-blues team needs to win two sets in the match of tomorrow evening; thanks to the success in the first leg match for 3-0, the Yellow-blues will be able to lose also at the tie-break to avoid the golden set hypothesis, which will be played only if Molfetta will win four sets. The team which will pass the round will face the winner of the match between Cucine Lube Banca Marche and Ninfa Latina.
PREVIOUSLY Tomorrow will stage the ninth comparison between the two teams, who compete continuously only since the 2013/14 season. The budget is 6-2 for Trentino Volley that has always won 3-0 at PalaTrento: on November 3rd, 2013 and on December 29th, 2014 in the regular season, on April 15th, 2015 in Game 1 of Playoff quarterfinals Championship last season. 1-1 the calculation of seasonal challenges: the Apulian won in three sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-20) the match of Super League on November 25th, the Yellow-blues have emerged with the same score in the first leg quarter of the Italian Cup (partial of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-13 and Urnaut mvp).
REFEREES It will be the couple from Friuli composed by Daniele Rapisarda (first referee of Udine) and Daniele Zucca (second referee of Trieste) to direct the match. The two whistles, respectively in role since 2002 and 2001 (Rapisarda is international since 2011), are in their first season joint direction, the sixth for both who boast a previous each with Diatec Trentino in the regular season 2015/16. Rapisarda directed Trento vs. Modena 3-2 on November 22nd, while Zucca whistled in Trento vs. Padua 3-1, on November 1st.
