Trento, 1st February 2017
2017 CEV Cup in the calendar of Trentino Diatec: on Thursday February 2nd in Sastamala (Finland) the yellow-blue team will play the away match of 8th-finals of the tournament against the home team VaLePa. The match is scheduled at 5:30 pm Italian time: live on Radio Dolomiti and www.laola1.tv (video streaming).
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After the experience in Del Monte® Coppa Italia 2017 with the final second place, Lanza and his team-mates are committed in another cup, the European cup that saw them play also the 16th-finals with two victories for 3-0, always against a Finnish team.
In this second, double commitment Trentino Volley will return to Scandinavia to play against the second best team of the country, after Hurrikaani Loimaa. The match against VaLePa Sastamala will open an intense period for the team of Angelo Lorenzetti, which from Thursday to the beginning of the playoff scudetto will play an official match every three days, between SuperLega and CEV Cup.
“We had less time to prepare this appointment and to regain the energies, especially the mental ones, invested during last weekend. We need to pay more attention to this away match in Finland because I consider it more difficult than the previous one – affirms trainer Lorenzetti about the match -. Compared to Hurrikaani Loimaa, VaLePa is a team with more experience and with a side-out that is more advanced thanks to the setter Esko, who has lot of international experiences. So, it is a particular commitment; we need to face it with caution and we need to remember that the competition will be played in two matches and won’t be played only tomorrow evening”.
Trentino Diatec will take part in the 8th-finals without any particular problems; this morning the team left for northern Europe and will arrive at its destination only this evening after flying from Verona to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Helsinki; a bus will bring the team from Helsinki to Sastamala.
SECOND AWAY MATCH IN FINLAND OF ALL TIME On Thursday Trentino Volley will play a match in Finland for the second time in its history. Finland is a country where it had never been to in its first sixteen years of activity and where it returns just four weeks after the previous occasion: on January 5th 2017, victory for 3-0 in Loimaa in the away match of the 16th-finals. The Club of via Trener has already played fifty-four European away matches (eleven in CEV Cup), being able to win forty-two times. The match in Sastamala, in the south of Finland will be the 130th international match of the yellow-blue history; outcome: 108 victories, 21 defeats.
RIVALS VaLePa from Sastamala, city in the south of Finland with ca. 25,000 inhabitants situated in the region Pirkanmaa, confirmed in the last weekend that it is among the most important Clubs of the country. Between Saturday and Sunday, the white-red Club, which has a long tradition in the Finnish championship and has a ten-year tradition in the European cups, got the national Cup after winning the semi-final against Hurrikaani Loimaa for 3-2 and the final against Sampo for 3-1. It is the second time that the Club, which has been established in 1978, has won the Finnish Cup; it has also won two championships in the seasons 2011/12 and 2013/14. Thanks to the third place got in the last Mestaruusliiga, it takes part in CEV Cup for the fifth time in this season; it has played also in the Challenge Cup (2009 and 2014). The best European result has been the qualification to the quarter-finals of 2016 CEV Cup, where it lost only at the golden set against Berlino of Serniotti, which then became champion.
The team available to the coach Sami Kurttila is composed by important players also at an international level: the setter is Esko (in Italy already in Padova, Montichiari and Modena), that plays in the diagonal line with Sivula (another ex player of Montichiari, Izmir and Berlino), while as banda plays Kunnari (ex Olympiacos, Ankara and Cannes); at the centre of the court there are the American Carmody and the Australian Guymer.
