Trento, February 7th 2017
SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 gets back on court on Wednesday February 8th for the 22th match of regular season, the ninth home round. Diatec Trentino will be the protagonist of the absolute big match of the day, facing Calzedonia Verona at PalaTrento in the traditional derby of Adige. The match will begin at 8.30 p.m.: live on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel at www.sportube.tv.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After the success of the away match of Sunday in Busto Arsizio (victory for 3-0 and second solitary place in the ranking list), Lanza and his team mates will open, with the home match against Verona, a small cycle of three matches of championship that could clarify the chances to close the tourney as second ranked. After the match against Calzedonia, Diatec Trentino will be in fact the protagonist on Sunday in Civitanova Marche and then will host Modena, facing three of the first four direct opponents.
“Since the beginning of SuperLega we’re occupying one of the important places in the ranking list and the next three matches will show us if we’ll preserved it until the end of regular season – the coach of Diatec Trentino Angelo Lorenzetti explained us while presenting the match -. In the match against Verona it will be fundamental finding immediately competitiveness and efficiency at a high level, aspects that we have to preserve for the next ten days. We are going to face an important and difficult match because in this second part of the Championship Verona has change gear, showing its good aspects know before the tourney”.
For this match, the coach of Diatec Trentino hasn’t particular problems with the formation; all the fourteen players have regularly trained in the last two days and are available. On Wednesday evening Trentino Volley will play its 694th official match so far (balance-sheet: 485 victories and 208 defeats), the 35th match of the current season; the undefeated record of PalaTrento lasts since nine months and twelve official matches: the last KO was in fact on April 25th 2015 (1-3 against Modena in match 4 of semifinal).
THE OPPONENTS Calzedonia Verona will arrive at PalaTrento at the culmination of a particularly favorable period which allowed the team to aim again at the fourth place in the ranking list – now far only two steps. The landing on the Veronese bench of Nikola Grbic (unforgotten protagonist of the first two historic titles of Trentino Volley, 2008 pennant and Champions League 2009) allowed the yellow-blue formation to receive the desired shake of the management after the resignation of Andrea Giani. With the Serbian Coach on the bench, the team from Veneto has done everything right without a miss, reaching six consecutive victories; the last one, on Sunday evening against Modena just in three sets. This new beginning for Calzedonia included a growth for what concerns team results and the definitive integration of Mitar Djuric in the game plans instructed by the setter Baranowicz. At his first match as former player of Trentino Volley and after wearing the yellow-blue colours 133 times winning 7 trophies, the Greek opposite-hitter together with the spiker Kovacevic forms one of the most prolific pairs of SuperLega: 645 points performed together, with the Serbian player in zone 4 that seems to be even the second best player of the competition on weighted average. On the sides, Verona can also count on Randazzo (who joined the club during the course of the regular season and immediately assert himself as a protagonist) and on the other former player of Trentino Volley, the Portuguese Ferreira; at the centre Anzani and Zingel provide a strong contribution: the former with his blocks and the latter in attack. From December 18th, when the team was defeated last time (0-3 in Molfetta), Giovi and his team-mates have always conquered the three available points and their opponents were able to win just two sets (1 Sora and 1 Milano).
THE PRECEDENTS PalaTrento will host the 21st official match between the two sport clubs; Trentino Volley has almost always won the so-called derby of Adige: the yellow-blue team conquered twenty-one matches whereas the opponents registered only seven victories, four of them at PalaTrento. However, in the last three challenges, home court advantage was not a plus foctor : Trento won at PalaOlimpia 3-2 on 8th December 2015 and 3-0 in November 2016, in the match of the first half of regular season (Giannelli mvp), while Verona defeated Diatec Trentino at PalaTrento 3-1 on 28th February 2016, in the unique match played in the region of Trentino in the last two years.
THE REFEREES The match will be refereed by Armando Simbari (from Milan – in the highest category since 2007 and international since 2016) and Gianni Bertolini (from Florence, in Serie A since 1992 and international since 2006). This is the first time they are going to referee together in SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17: for Simbari this is the 10th time (he has already refereed Sora-Trento on 9th October which ended by 3-0) and the 11th for Bartolini, who return to PalaTrento after refereeing Diatec Trentino-Kioene Padova on Boxing Day, a match that ended by 3-1.
