Trento, 25th February 2017
The regular season of SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 ends this weekend; between today and tomorrow the teams will play the twenty-fifth round of championship. Diatec Trentino will play against Gi Group on Sunday 26th February at Palazzetto dello Sport in Monza; the beginning of the match is scheduled at 6 pm, live on RAI Sport 1 and Radio Dolomiti.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After three home matches in a row, which improved the extraordinary performance of the team (sixteen victories in sixteen matches played at PalaTrento), the Yellow-blues will play an away match which will determine their final position in the ranking list of regular season as well as the matching of the quarter-final of Play Off Scudetto (for every round, three victories out of a maximum of five matches, starting from Sunday 5th March).
In order to keep the second place without checking the result of the direct competitor Perugia (which will play at home against Verona), Lanza and his team-mates will need a victory in no more than four sets; if Trento will have the same points as Sir Safety Conad, it will keep the second place thanks to a better set quotient and will play against the seventh team of the ranking list (Monza or Ravenna); if not, Trento will play against the sixth team (Piacenza).
“We want to and have to think about the match against Monza without focusing on the other results– said trainer Angelo Lorenzetti -. The match is very difficult and we need the right mentality to play against Gi Group; they too need points and will be battle-hardened. For this reason, we have to be ready to control the pressure of this match playing with humility and determination. We have been on top of the ranking list since the beginning of the regular season, we have an important occasion to prove ourselves as top team and we are going to do our best”.
After today’s training at PalaTrento, Diatec Trentino will leave this evening for Monza with all players. The technical staff has all fourteen players at his disposal and will have problems to chose the starting six; in the running for a place on the field there are Stokr and Nelli as opposites and Daniele Mazzone and Van de Voorde as middle blockers.
At Palazzetto dello Sport of Monza, where on Sunday morning there will be the traditional pre-match training between 9.30 and 11 am, Trentino Volley will play its 40th seasonal match (30 victories and 9 defeats), its 699th match in its history, its 380th away match (237 victories and 142 KO).
OPPONENTS Gi Group Monza will know this evening if it needs to collect points in order to defend the seventh place in the ranking list. if today Ravenna wins against Vibo Valentia, it will get the seventh place, forcing the Lombard team to occupy the eight place temporarily. In order to avoid playing against Lube in the quarter-finals, the team of Falasca could need to get the victory against Diatec Trentino at its Palazzetto dello Sport, already “sold-out”. The integration of the opposite Leandro Vissotto (former player of Diatec Trentino between 2008 and 2010, including the victory of two Champions League, one World championship and one Coppa Italia) has been completed; the Brazilian has been one of the best players in the victory against Piacenza on Wednesday, which enabled Monza to keep the seventh place, already occupied throughout the whole regular season thanks to eleven victories in twenty-five matches and to the twenty-one points out of the thirty-four of the ranking list got in front of its supporters.
The statistics of Lega show the great season of the middle blocker Verhees (best player of the championship in this position) and of the hitter Fromm, sixth in the ranking list of the attack fundamental. Moreover, the setter Jovovic will set great balls to this last two players and to Vissotto (regular player in place of Hirsch).
PRECEDENTS Trentino Volley and Vero Volley Monza have only six official precedents because they started playing against each other only three seasons ago. One third of the precedents refers to this season: at PalaTrento on 27th November (match of the first half of the season, ended at the tie-break) and on 11th January (quarter-final of Coppa Italia, 3-0). The Yellow-blues have won all precedents; at Palazzetto dello Sport of Monza, Trento has always got all points at stake, winning in three sets on 26th December 2014 and for 3-1 on 28th October 2015. However, the Club of via Trener had played other seven matches (all won) against another team of Monza in the past: Acqua Paradiso, already Montichiari; the field of Monza has always been positive for Trento, taking also into account the victories for 3-1 on 27th December 2009, on 30th January 2011 and on 8th January 2012.
REFEREES The match will be directed by Omero Satanassi (main referee from Porto Fuori-Ravenna, in Serie A since 1996) and Alessandro Tanasi (second referee from Noto – Siracusa, in Serie A since 2002), the same couple of the match Trento-Monza on 11th January (quarter-final of Coppa Italia). Only Satanassi has a seasonal precedent with Trentino Volley: on October 2nd 2016, home victory against Vibo (3-0).
