Trento, November 25th 2017
This weekend SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/2018 will be back in the field in order to play the ninth round of regular season, that already started on Friday night with the early match Vibo-Modena (0-3). Diatec Trentino is playing on Sunday November 26th in PalaBlanca in Piacenza, against the home team Wixo Lpr. By now this match is a classic of the Italian volleyball. It is starting at 6:00pm: live on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel on the web site: www.elevensports.it/superlega.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After having regained confidence with the victory 3-2 in the home field against Latina, the yellow-blues are ready to start this new week in which they will only play against teams from Emilia Romagna: on Sunday they're confronting Piacenza and seven days after that (on December 3rd) they're confronting Modena. If Trentino wants to score enough points for moving up in the rankings, improving the continuity of the game and being more determined in each appointment, are high priority targets.
"We need to score some points because we wasted too many of them, but of course in order to score them in is necessary to be more determined in every match" said the coach Angelo Lorenzetti when presenting this appointment "There is no absolute truth, but we need to play every match knowing that it could be the right occasion to regain some positions in the ranking. The match we're playing on Sunday will be one of the most difficult ones since Wixo Lpr is a plausible fourth best team of the tournament. It is reaping the rewards of the efforts it has been making since the last season. It already had a very efficient break point phase, but now it is also improving its side-out phase, thanks to which it will be able to live this tournament as a protagonist. Sometimes it is one of the nicest teams to look at when it comes to the development of the action in response to the opponent service".
Diatec Trentino technician is counting on the entire shortlist (all thirteen players) for today's training in PalaTrento, that will take place before leaving for Piacenza, and during the training of Sunday morning in Emilia he will decide which couple of spikers are playing during the starting six. He will take into accounts that Kovacevic has completely recovered and that he alternated with Hoag and Lanza during the match against Latina. There will be many formers, including the coach, the opposite Vettori, the second setter Partenio, the athletic director Guazzaloca anf the physiotherapist Russo, that last summer moved from Piacenza to Trento.
On this occasion Trentino Volley is playing the 727th match of it history, the 439th in regular season; the yellow-blues will try and obtain their 242th victory in an away match, that they're have been waiting for a month and four days (since the 3-1 in Padova on October 22nd).
THE OPPONENTS The defeats they suffered during the last few days, first in Civitanova and then last Sunday in the home field against Padova (that already scratched it at the octo-finals of Coppa Italia) stopped the winning streak of Wixo Lpr Piacenza. Three won matches in a row (against Latina, Milano and Castellana) had placed the team on top of the ranking. In order to regain some positions they have to win the sixth match out of the ten they played in regular season, and for doing so the team trained by the coach Alberto Giuliani will do its utmost in the home field against its historical enemy Trento. In this match there are at stake some points that would be very important for both teams.
The first part of the season has shown that the Emilian team is consistently among the strongest teams in attack (no one has scored so many points as the white-reds) and on the block, where only Latina has done more blocks. Of huge importance for these team statistics are first-class individualities, such as Bulgarian Yosifov (best tournament block), the french spiker Clevenot (third bomber with an average of over 4 points each set) and Parodi, who has recovered completely from the injuries that had affected him in recent years and has returned to be a point of reference for Baranowicz's game. In pink there are experienced players such as the opposite Fei and the spiker Marshall, but so far the second has not been able to help the team having to deal often with physical problems
THE PREVIOUS Piacenza is among the opponents challenged the most by Trentino Volley: 52 matches of the 726 played in just over seventeen seasons of activity; only Modena (67) and Lube (57) have been challenged more times. The statistics of the past matches are positive for Trento by 34-18, thanks also to the ten victories obtained in the last thirteen matches; In the last season the yellow-blues collected 3 victories out of 4 matches: 3-0 on January 8 at the PalaTrento in regular season and 1 March in the quarter-final of the CEV Cup at PalaBanca and 3-1 on March 15. However the most recent defeat is linked to a match played in Emilia (1-3 on November 17, 2016) in SuperLega. Nevertheless in Piacenza Trentino Volley won many times, putting together twelve successes in twenty-four matches. Last September 23 at PalaTrento, during the current season's preparation period, the two teams faced a low-ranked test match that Diatec Trentino won for 3-1.
THE REFEREES Massimo Florian (from Treviso, in Serie A since 2007) and Gianluca Cappello (from Sortino - Siracusa, in Serie A since 2004) will referee the match. The two whistles are at the second joint seasonal designation in SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/18, the seventh for Florian (who referees Diatec Trentino again after the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia won 3-0 in Monza), the sixth for Hat, who in this championship had already refereed Trento on the success for 3-1 in Padova on 22 October.
