Villafranca di Verona, September 18th 2016
The match report about Villafranca Tournament Final. Angelo Lorenzetti confirms most of the seven regular players of Diatec Trentino who already played for the greatest part of the semi-final against Verona: the setter Giannelli, the opposite Stokr, the hitters Lanza and Antonov (in place of Urnaut), the middle blockers Solé and Daniele Mazzone, the libero Chiappa (in place of Colaci). LPR has many defections and the choices are obvious: the setter Cottarelli, the opposite Nelli (borrowed from Diatec Trentino for this match), the hitters Clevenot and Nasari, the middle blockers Tencati and Alletti, the libero Papi. At the beginning Diatec Trentino prepares the breakaway with Stokr and Lanza (5-1), but Piacenza immediately reacts and Nelli begins to fix the situation (7-6). A block of Cottarelli and the following ace bring Piacenza to the tie (9-9), but Diatec Trentino immediately starts again to collect points with Solé (12-9). After the technical time-out, 2 more aces of Clevenot bring Piacenza to another tie (12-12); the second half is more balanced (16-16) until Cottarelli and Nelli (almost impeccable so far) make two errors in attack (19-16 for the team from Trento). This is the deciding point because the yellow-blue team monitors the advantage and with a great performance of Stokr Diatec Trentino wins the first set (25-21).
In the second set, Piacenza tries to react and, thanks to Clevenot and Nelli, it goes into the lead for the first time in the match (7-9) but then a series of blocks of Daniele Mazzone turns the score into12-10. With an attack and an ace Stokr increases the advantage (15-11), but as the set seems to be fully controlled by the team of Lorenzetti, Nelli blocks Stokr, Cottarelli scores an ace and Clevenot blocked Lanza, so that the score is poised again. In order to achieve 2-0, Trentino Volley needs a new starting point and that is possible thanks to another block realised by Mazzone (23-20); the following side outs turn the score into 25-22 and the two teams get back to their benches. In the third set Burgsthaler replaces Solè; in the beginning, the score is balanced (6-6), then Diatec Trentino loses lucidity in defence and LPR takes advantage of this, increasing the gap also thanks to the scores realised by Clevenot (9-12). Piacenza gains an advantage of 4 points (11-15), then Trento recovers thanks to blocks and defences (16-17) and achieves 20-19 with a break point of Lanza. An error of the captain and a successful attack of Clevenot reverse the situation (21-23) but Trento recovers and achieves the tie (24-24). After annulling two set balls, an error of Cottarelli and a series of points of Antonov closes the match by 28-26 and 3-0.
“The team was good because it never dropped the guard, although we were playing against a team without many first-string players – stated Angelo Lorenzetti by the end of the match-. We did what we have to do and by the end of the third set we gave a demonstration of character; I’m happy, even if we have to work harder especially for what concerns the side out because today we didn’t play at our best in this phase of the game. I’m delighted to underline the performance of Nelli too, that today has played against us but showed very good moves and I thank him for his willingness. The day of the Supercoppa approaches and we are the point of the preparation that one month ago I set myself as a goal but we know that in Modena it will be really hard”.
Trentino Diatec has now one day and a half off, then it will start to train again. Tuesday afternoon at PalaTrento, the start of the countdown that will bring the team at the Final Four of Del Monte Supercoppa Italiana 2016 scheduled on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th at PalaPanini. In the opening match of the event, Trentino Volley will play against the hosting team, Azimut Modena, in the first semi-final at 4 p.m.
