The match report. Diatec Trentino shows at Kioene Arena wihout Kovacevic; in the starting six we have Giannelli as setter, Lanza and Hoag as spikers, Eder and Zingel as middle blockers, De Pandis as libero. Padova answers with Travica as setter, Nelli as opposite, Cirovic and Randazzo in the 4th place, Polo and Volpato as middle blockers, Balaso as libero. The start of the match is extremely balanced (5-5, 9-9); the jumping service of Hoag breaks the tie, who find an ace and helps in the action of Lanza (12-9). Baldovin stops the game and in the restart Randazzo changes again the situation (12-12), forcing Lorenzetti to call the time out. After a while Giannelli brings out the best at the service (16-13), imitated shortly after by the Canadian spiker, who realizes one more ace and a pipe which score 5 more points (22-17). That’s the decisive moment, because from that on the yellow-blues just keep the level high in the side-out in order to win the set with a 25-21.
In the second set Trentino keeps to call the shots, exploiting of a good wall (2 points) of Simone Giannelli, who immediately set the score to 4-1; Padova however, quickly ties with the usual Randazzo (6-6). The yellow-blues answer with a wall of Eder and a counterattack of Lanza and regain a new point (13-10); Kioene trembles and starts to fail and Lorenzetti’s team starts to prevail (19-15) and gains the first point thanks to the usual decisive action of Vettori (25-19)
Kioene reacts at the beginning of the third set, putting all on the service (3-6 and 4-9), with Nelli and Polo which become absolute protagonists. Lorenzetti stops the game and throws in the field Cavuto (for Hoag) but the yellow-blues can’t overcome too much (9-15,10-17) also because Travica handles his attacks very well. Giannelli flickers (13-18), Padova smells the danger and restarts again with the service of Polo (13-21), reaching the 2-1 on the 17-25 (final point of Nelli).
The match goes back to being well balanced in the fourth set, with both teams competing over the control till the 8-8, then Nelly gains 3 points (8-11). But Hoag, who is in good shape, makes two break points (11-13), imitated by Eder which makes an ace (15-16). The second part of the set therefore is played point to point (18-18, 20-20) and at the end Lanza and Hoag close the loop (25-23).
