The new technical staff of Trentino Volley for season 2017/18 includes another important element. From the middle of August Angelo Lorenzetti can rely on the support of Dante Boninfante; the former setter of Treviso, Piacenza, Modena and Milano, will be the third coach, a figure that has been introduced on this occasion for the first time in the yellow-blue club. His task is going to be to support the technical development of the team, working in close contact both with the first coach and with the second one, Petrella, and with the scoutman Ciamarra; because of its experience as setter, Boninfante will deal in particular with the training of Simone Giannelli and Pier Paolo Paternio. In order to accept the offer, Boninfante (who was born forty years ago in Battipaglia) turned down the chance to play for one year more for Revivre Milano, deciding to end his career of over twenty years as high-level professional, in which he won a Champions League, two Italian Championship, two Coppa Italia and in particular the Bronze medal in the Olympic Games of London 2012 with the National Volleyball team (the setter collected 49 presences).
I know Boninfante very well, since our common experience in the team of Piacenza and so I’m aware of how volleyball is part of him; – explained coach Angelo Lorenzettifor this reason I think that the job we have offered him is the natural continuation of his high-level route in the world of this sport. He will be an important coach that can offer us great support and in particular for what concerns the development of the side-out phase and the growth of Giannelli, with whom I think he can start a good cooperation. His help will be very important not only from a technical but also from a relational point of view; Dante has always been a player able to change and to find new solutions during his career to achieve the goals he had set. I hope he can pass down to the team and to the staff this important skills”.
In the first weeks it will be unusual for me to watch other players training instead of doing it in first person but I think I’ll quickly get used to it – admitted Dante Boninfante -. I chose to interrupt my career in advance because I couldn’t reject the proposal of Trentino Volley and Angelo Lorenzetti; I wanted to start to train and I couldn’t hope any better than doing this with a well-organized sport club as Trentino Volley and a coach that in my opinion is number one. I’m ready to offer all the experience I have gained as player in the last twenty years but at the same time I want to learn more, day by day”.
