Trento, 2nd November 2016
Thanks to the important victory obtained on Tuesday evening in Ravenna, that was the sixth victory out of six regular season ‘s matches of 2016/2017 SuperLega UnipolSai, Diatec Trentino still follows the first three teams in the general ranking (Modena, Civitanova and Verona, even if they have played one game more than Trentino Volley) and at the same time to conclude in the best way possible this three-match series in six days, right after their return from Brazil. Among the main protagonists of the latest two important victories, a home game against Sir Safety Conad and a match on the field of Bunge, there is the Belgian middle blocker Simon Van de Voorde: on the occasion of the match at Pala De Andrè he registered his personal record of points during a single game of SuperLega wearing the shirt of Trentino Volley. He obtained 14 points in four sets, with six successful blocks and 67% of attacks scored at the centre of the net. Only on one previous occasion in Champions League, Leuven in zone 3 did better, scoring a total of 15 points in Trento-Tours 3-0 on December 2nd 2015.
“I consider more important the team victory than my personal performance – explains Simon, who this week has been joined in Trento by his wife and his son Daan Felix, born just three months ago -. It was really important to win other three points on this occasion and by succeeding in doing this, we showed a great performance both physically and mentally. Besides, from my personal point of view, it was fundamental to achieve the feeling I usually have when I do blocks. Scoring so many points in the first set (7, ndr) has surely helped me to have more confidence in my own abilities. I’m happy because in this early part of the season I’m feeling better every match; last season I struggled to find a good condition due to an ankle injury I suffered against Latina. Now I don’t feel any more pain and most important I’m improving my italian: I understand most of it, I’m beginning to speak fluently and this allows me to connect better with the team, especially with Giannelli”.
“I can still do better, my goal is to help the team more and more - reported Van de Voorde; looking at the match schedule he added: “ Starting from next match against Milan we need to confirm our good condition and improve, if possible, in order to prepare the series of matches against Lube, Verona, Piacenza and Modena. I believe that at the end of these challenging tests we’ll find out how competitive we can be. Winning against Perugia was a confidence boost, we realized we can be among the top teams, but staying at the top of the rank will require continuity”.
Angelo Lorenzetti gave the team one day and a half of rest as a recognition of what the team has accomplished lately. The double session of training scheduled today has been delayed until tomorrow afternoon, when the players will return to PalaTrento.
