After achieving the victory against VaLePa and the qualification to the 2017 CEV Cup Quarter finals, Trentino Diatec is now among the best eight teams of the competition. In order to access the semi-finals of an international competition for the third season in a row, the team will now have to overcome the next obstacle and this will not require to travel abroad, as the opponent will be Lpr Piacenza, the team that defeated Vojvodina NS Seme Novi Sad.  In the fourth round of the competition there will then be an Italian derby, that will allow the Italian Championship to have anyway one representative in the best four teams of the competition. The away match will take place place from February 28th until March 2nd, while the home match is to be scheduled on March 14 or 16th. In order to have the exact dates of the matches, the two clubs will now have to agree with their federations and with CEV.
As it happened in the 16th-finals and in the 8th-finals, the team which in the double confrontation gets the highest number of points - like in SuperLega championship, 3 points for the victory 3-0 and 3-1, 2 points for the victory 3-2 and 1 point for the defeat 2-3 - after both matches will get access to the next round. The golden set (a spare set up to 15 points) will be played only if the teams ties.
Trentino Volley will face for the fourth time an Italian team in international competitions; all the other matches were against Lube, all won, in Champions League; 3-0 in the 2009 semi-final, 2-3 and 3-0 during the 2012 Playoffs 6 and 3-0 in the 2016 edition.
