The match report about Azimut Modena vs Diatec Trentino, first 2016 Del Monte Supercup Final. For the first official match Angelo Lorenzetti relied on the best sextet ever with setter Giannelli, opposite Stokr, bands Lanza and Urnaut, middle-blockers Solé and Daniele Mazzone and libero Colaci. Azimut Modena counted at the beginning on setter Orduna, opposite Vettori, spikers Ngapeth and Petric, middle-blockers Le Roux and Holt, Libero Rossini. The beginning of the match was vibrant but balanced; Trento tried to take advantage from an error of Vettori (2-0 and 3-1) but it was reached quickly (6-6) and then Ngapeth overcame it (6-8). Stokr evened the match blocking the French who previously blocked him as well and then Lanza scored the new advantage (12-10). Modena replied again with Ngapeth and a break of 0-5 (12-15) before taking more advantage (15-19) using some of the too much errors of Trento. Lorenzetti used all the time outs available but there wasn’t reaction and Azimut won quickly the first set (18-22 and then 19-25) with Petric having quite always the ball. Diatec Trentino tried to react in the second set; pushed by Urnaut and Stokr, It gained immediately a small edge (5-2) that then kept (10-7) forcing Piazza to interrupt the match. At the reprise Daniele Mazzone scored ( 2 aces for 12-7) but then – as in the first set- Modena changed gear with Ngapeth and Petric and reached 17-17 before being in advantage thanks to the incisiveness of his service (17-20). Trento had the strength to reply till the 23-23 then lose after the spike of Petric (23-25).
In the third set Diatec Trentino risked it all; Lorenzetti didn’t change Nelli (who already replaced Stokr at the end of the preceding set) and the Tuscan opposite scored the 4-1 and then the 7-4. Azimut reacted but Trento kept the opponent at a safe distance (12-10 and then 15-12 with an ace from Solé) and took advantage of its net and service errors to get to +4 (20-16). The finish was absolutely exciting: Modena got to -1 (21-20) before falling under the strikes from Solé (block on Ngapeth) and Giannelli (ace). In the fourth set Modena got off to a flying start (1-4) but patiently Trento got to the 7/7 with Urnaut and then ran off with Lanza to 10-8. Modena recovered the disadvantage until the 16-16 with one of his best players, Ngapeth, and then Diatec Trentino scored two important points (19-17) with his captain, Filippo Lanza, but Azimut went back on its feet and found itself leading the match for 22-20. A great strike from Solé got the score to 23-23; the break point of Petric on the first match ball closed the game on 3-1 for the home team (23-25).
