The success in the A22 derby against Modena allowed Diatec Trentino to maintain a clean sheet inside PalaTrento (right against the last team able to defeat home team in PalaTrento) and the second position in the rank of 2016/2017 SuperLega UnipolSai. Thanks to the last 3-0 win, and to the better win/loss ratio than Perugia’s, points being equal, Yellow-blues still are ahead in the league and in the last two matches of the regular season will be creator of their own destiny.
The three sets won against Azimut also mathematically certified Trentino Volley as one of the first four teams in the rank, and this ensures that the team will play two of the three quarter finals matches in front of the home crowd. Another valuable fact about last Sunday’s match was the presence, for most of the game, of four players grown in the Diatec Trentino nursery; beside the usual regulars Lanza and Giannelli, also rising star Tiziano Mazzone and unstoppable Gabriele Nelli joined the team in one of the hottest matches of the season.
“I had been told few days earlier than the game that I was going to play in the starting six, Lorenzetti had told me that to motivate me and give me responsibility - said the  Tuscan opposite, who was, along with Lanza, best scorer of his team with 13 points and a 55% attack-. I’m very happy I could give me help to the team, but I’m even happier for Tiziano’s performance; his entrance gave us so much. He’s been great because there aren’t much chances to play and he made the most out of his, he was ready. I tried to do the same myself; I know there are many ups and downs, but I worked hard to avoid the latters and this time it went very well.”   “We managed the best way every difficult situation we faced tonight - Nelli went on during the interview of Radio Dolomiti after the match-; we kept focused on every ball, what we had prepared tactically before the match, we put it in our game. Winning second set, after the bad start, was the key of the match; being able to play such an important match in front of our fans gave us some extra motivation from the mental point of view. We need to do so during away matches too, now we’re lucky that Wednesday’s match in again in PalaTrento. Against Molfetta we have to play with the same approach and intensity so as not to waste the good we did so far”.
Before the last home match of regular season, Diatec Trentino returned to the gym this afternoon, with two groups training with weights.
