Trento, 14th June 2017
These days, together with the sporting activity of season 2016/17, the second year of the project “Facciamo muro contro la povertà” – “Let’s fight against poverty together”. In the second half of May, the operators of Amref Health Africa and Dario Sanna – the coach that deals with this important charity project for Trentino Volley – got back to the district Dagoretti in Nairobi (Kenya), continuing the coordination and the supervision of the trainings on the fields. As already happened at the end of November, during this period the yellow-blue coach spent time in contact with the boys that take part in this program, verifying the progress of the project and offering new suggestions to the local coaches, who meanwhile have improved their knowledges and their confidence in teaching the playing and coaching techniques. Two of them, Steve Kagia and Morris Mukoto, will take part in the 5th turn of BIG Camp 2017 in Monte Bondone for an important moment of interaction with the technical staff and to further improve their experience. The goal of “Facciamo muro contro la povertà” is always the creation of new opportunities of rehabilitation of African boys through sport, transmitting them the values of volleyball.
“We successfully carried out the 6th mission of this project in Kenya; every time I go to Africa, besides the extremely important human aspect, it’s positive to notice how the activity is growing both qualitatively and from a quantitative point of view – commented Dario Sanna -, During this second season
eighty other boys, besides the hundred that have already began this project the previous year, have been involved. We establish the level of the training on the basis of the individual ability, but each boy has the chance to play and to be part of a group that every day becomes more and more united and strong, not only from a sporting point of view. On Thursday May 25th there has been a friendly game against KCB, one of the most important team of female volleyball in Kenya. On that occasion, besides the joint training, twelve players of the same club have taken part in a demonstrative game, showing the spectacularity of volleyball of high level. Meanwhile, we carried on the recruitment activity in the streets of the district Dagoretti, one of the poorest slums of Nairobi, where Amref Health Africa with the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and many donations has built a centre where guys can study, eat and lead a life far from danger and violence. Thanks to Trentino Volley, volleyball completes this kind of recovery activity, offering the boys the chance to do sport, providing the sport equipment too: nets and the bases to build them, balls, kneepads, T-shirts. It does not take much to create entertainment and offer a different prospects to these guys”. In September, the 3rd season of the project will begin; for further information, subscriptions and donations: www.amref.it/facciamo_muro.
