The first defeat 0-3 of regular season SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 last Sunday against Perugia forced Diatec Trentino to leave the second place in the ranking list in favour of Sir Safety Conad Perugia. After six victories in a row, between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, the yellow-blue team had to deal with a defeat that doesn’t compromise the pursuit for the first place; Trento is third with a 2-point gap from the second place and with one point more than Modena. “We knew that it was a difficult task, because it is always a challenge to win on the field of one of the best teams of SuperLega. We wanted to play a different match with tactical attention and agonistic intensity: we succeeded only at certain points – explained Simone Giannelli the day after the KO at PalaEvangelisti -. For two sets, the first and the third, the fight was very intense and the match went on point-by-point, while in the second partial we struggled in every fundamental. In this situation, we don’t regret the final result, but our attitude: we were too submissive and we couldn’t be incisive with our service. Perugia has good percentages in reception and it is very hard to control it with block and defence. We needed more courage and we needed to wait less for the opponents; we needed to take control of the situation but it isn’t always possible”.
“I believe that this lesson can always help us, because Sir Safety Conad has revealed many limits of our way of playing – added the setter -; from Tuesday we will resume training with lot of useful information that will help us to improve the aspects in which we still have problems. We need to be positive and focus on the next commitments with confidence: on Wednesday evening at PalaTrento against Loimaa and on Saturday against Ravenna we need to forget the match against Perugia and turn over a new leaf”.
Today Diatec Trentino had a day off; the schedule of preparation in view of the home match of the 16th-finals of 2017 CEV Cup against Hurrikaani Loimaa (on Wednesday 18th January at PalaTrento – at 8.30 pm, included in the season-ticket) will see a double training-session the day before the match.
