Trento, January 2nd 2017

This week Trentino Volley will officially begin its seasonal path in the European Cups.
In fact, on January 5th the team will participate to the CEV Cup in Loimaa (Finland) for the third time in the Club’s history, the eleventh time in Europe taking into account also the seventh times in CEV Champions League (six consecutive participations between 2008 and 2014 and the most recent in 2016). The only two precedents in the competitions were on 2004/05 and 2014/15 seasons: during the first occasion, the Yellow-blue Club started its path in the Top Teams Cup, hosting at PalaTrento a pool of four teams in the first phase of qualifications that included also  Famagusta (Cyprus), Strassen (Luxemburg) and Rotterdam (Holland) which defeated and eliminated the team. Thanks to the second place in the ranking list, it qualified to the CEV Cup. The formation, trained back then by Prandi qualified to the first knock-out round winning against Odense (Denmark) a new round of qualifications for four teams which included the home team, but also Pribram (Czech Republic) and Patra (Greece). The adventure ended the next round, because of Talkback Ankara that win twice for 3-1 on December 7th and 15th 2004. The journey during 2014/15 was luckier. It ended with a second place after Dinamo Mosca, which won the trophy only at the golden set after two different matches (Russian victory at PalaTrento, Trentino’s victory in the Russian Capitol). In order to reach all that, the team trained back then by Stoytchev won in succession Novi Sad in the sixteenth finals, Tel Aviv in the first knock-out round, Craiova in the quarter finals, Roeselare in the Challenge Round and Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the semifinal.
The best memories of the European sphere are those of the CEV Champions League which the team won three times: on April 5th in Prague against Iraklis Thessaloniki for 3-1, after overcoming in the semifinal of the Italian derby Macerata and ending the tournament with a clean path (12 victories out of 12 played matches); on May 2nd 2010 at Atlas Arena of Lodz thanks to the success against Dinamo Mosca; on March 27th 2011 at PalaOnda of Bolzano against Kazan for 3-1in the final match.
