Simone Giannelli

Trento, 31st December 2016
If 2015 was the year of the explosion, 2016 has been the year of the definitive consecration at high level. During the last twelve months Simone Giannelli has played 80 official matches (54 with Trentino Volley, 26 with the National team) and was able to play as regular player all the final rounds of the most important national and international events: Supercoppa Italiana, Coppa Italia, Play Off Scudetto, Champions League, Club World Championship, World League and Olympic Games.
“It has been a year of beautiful things for me – explained the player from Bolzano to Trentino Volley TV -; my thought surely goes to what I experienced in Rio de Janeiro in August during the Olympic Games, but I don’t forget also everything else, bearing in mind that you can’t always win. There were also some disappointments, because in many occasions together with my team-mates of Club and National team I was on the verge of great victories that in the end came to nothing, but I accept it. I treasure everything of last year: for example, Champions League and Olympic Games have been two very important events that helped me to grow, because I had the opportunity of playing against the best players in the world learning a lot from them. I still have a long way in front of me and I have to improve in many aspects, but in 2016 I gained useful experience for my future”.
“The beginning of 2017 will be very hard – added Giannelli -; immediately we will play difficult matches, for example on 5th January in Finland against Hurrikaani, which I could already study: it plays a good volleyball. Then we will play against Piacenza and Perugua in SuperLega and against Monza in the quarter-finals of Coppa Italia, all matches of high level, which we need to interpret with the right mentality trying to play a more convincing volleyball, conscious of our value and of that of our rivals. Awaiting these matches, I wish our supporters a happy new year: I hope it will be full of satisfactions and emotions”.
