The bronze medal of Sporting Merit from CONI given to him by President Mr. Malagò on Monday evening and especially after being awarded a degree in Economics at the University of Trento the day after, have rightly brought him to prominence at regional and national level in the last few hours. Thursday morning Matteo Burgsthaler decided to celebrate his unforgettable week live on Radio Dolomiti taking part in the twelfth seasonal episode of “Fuori Campo – il Volley parlato” (voice-over – talking about volley) and so, sharing with the listeners the emotions and feelings he experienced before, during and after these two significant moments in his life. “These have been busy days but absolutely thrilling and unforgettable – explained the middle blocker of Trentino Volley after the presenter Gabriele Biancardi asked him this specific question - . A volleyball player can not live off his sports career, so I’ve always considered studying and holding a degree as a necessary step as it represents today what the school-leaving certificate represented twenty years ago. In order to reach this goal I mainly studied during the summer, having less sports commitments, but sometimes also during the seasons whenever possible. I started studying economics thanks to a team-mate who was already attending this course; I remember out of curiosity reading a book that he had to read and becoming fascinated by the subject. Since I had the discussion of my dissertation the day after the awarding ceremony of the medal of Sporting Merit, I must say that I was not completely involved in that moment: I was obviously thinking about my dissertation, but being awarded by CONI President has anyway been very exciting”.
“Now that I have finished my studies I will only focus on volleyball – Burgsthaler joked -. What our team are experiencing is a sort of year zero; we all have something to prove, for one reason or another, but it’s also fine like that. On Sunday we are playing in Milan at Forum in Assago, the facility where we competed for the V-DAY and the finish of Coppa Italia; but if I have to recall a memory of that facility, what comes to mind is the victory of Scudetto at PalaTrento in 2013 together with the one of the V-DAY in 2012. The best blocker I know? Tencati: he is the best one for the way he foresees the opponents’ game".
The training programme for Sunday 8th February in Milan has already counted two training sessions for the blue and yellow team (in the weights room in the morning and in the volleyball court in the afternoon) on Tuesday and Wednesday; the same training is expected on Friday, whereas on Thursday and Saturday the team will train with the ball in the early afternoon. They are leaving for Lombardia at about 5.30 pm on 7th February; the day after, starting from 6 pm, Trentino Volley are playing at Mediolanum Forum in Assago, the facility where the team won his last Coppa Italia on 30th December 2012. This match will surely bring a large number of fans in the facility, as it did in the previous match that Revivre Milan had decided to compete for in this facility (on 2nd November the match Vs Modena attracted almost six thousand people).
