Simone Giannelli and the major of Bolzano Caramaschi

Simone Giannelli returned to his hometown for a few hours. After taking part in the presentation of the championship of SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 in the Sala d’Onore of Coni together with Antonov, Lanza and President Monsa on Monday afternoon, the Trentino Diatec setter has participated in Bolzano (the town where he was born 20 years ago) in two moments that are for different reasons of particular significance. At 9.30 am Giannelli has been welcomed by the Mayor of the county seat of South Tyrol Renzo Caramaschi and by the Assessor for Sport of the Municipality Angelo Gennaccaro during a meeting in the Sala di Giunta of the town hall. On behalf of the whole citizenry, the main local authorities have thanked Simone for the very deep emotion given with the splendid silver medal won at the Olympic Games of Rio 2016.
The sporting event organized by the Municipality of Bolzano together with the Sport Team Südtirol to give all the fans the opportunity of seeing Giannelli play in his town has been officialised during the meeting: on Thursday 6th October Diatec Trentino will go to South Tyrol to play a friendly game at 8 pm at PalaResia against Friedrichshafen, the second team classified in the German championship. “I thank Simone Giannelli for the joy he gave us winning such a prestigious silver medal – said Mayor Caramaschi -. We’re honoured to have young people from Bolzano who show their quality, commitment, intelligence, training, resolution and determination. All this represents an example for a youth I want to imagine nice, committed, healthy and sporty. I really hope that the positive example of Simone Giannelli will be somewhat contagious and will represent an efficient spot for the volley and for the sport in general”.
“I’m often away from my town because of sporting commitments, but today I’m here and I’m particularly pleased to spend some time in Bolzano. Thank you all”, so declared Giannelli who after the meeting in the town hall went to San Maurizio Hospital to do the HLA matching in order to become a bone marrow donor and, therefore, national testimonial of ADMO.
A real champion can be recognized also in his actions outside the playing field.
