Report of the match. Both teams have the same formation of the last match of Pool E; Trentino Diatec, which takes the field with the setter Giannelli who plays in diagonal with Vettori Lanza and Kovacevic as spikers, Eder and Kozamernik as middle blockers, De Pandis and Chiappa in the libero role. Noliko Maaseik lines up Blankenau as setter, Cox as opposite, Bruno and Maan as spikers, Mijatovic and Tammemaa as middle blockers, Dronkers as libero. Trentino Diatec starts in the best way: Giannelli (with attacks and blocks on Bruno) and Kozamernik (with a block on Maan) take the right way (5-2, 7-3). Noliko doesn’t lose focus and scores a 3-0 counter-break almost filling the gap; Trentino Diatec reacts with Lanza and Kovacevic who get the situation under control (16-11) with their attacks, blocks and services (Lanza’s ace). This time the yellow-blues handle the situation with great attention and thanks to Giannelli’s blocks (almost two in a row) they boost their lead (20-11) quickly gaining the points that take them to close the set on (25-16).
The Belgians try to reply at the beginning of the second set, taking the lead with Cox (2-5) and then with Maan (7-11), after that Kozamernik leads his team close to the opponent (6-7) with a block. The time out called by Angelo Lorenzetti has never been so useful because then the yellow-blues fill the gap thanks to Lanza and Vettori (13-13). It is hard to disrupt the balance (16-16, 18-18, 20-20, 23-23), with the two teams alternating the lead; in the final part of the set Trento nullifies a set ball with Eder and gets another one thanks to Kozamernik, but it takes advantage just of the fourth on the 29-27 thanks to Vettori’s block on Maan.
With a score of 2-0 in favour of Trentino Diatec, the coach of Maaseik tries to change the game lining up Gevert, Riychlicki and Sighinolfi, respectively for Cox Mijatovice Bruno but this doesn’t produce the desired effect because Trentino Diatec manages to take the lead (5-2, 8-4). The opponents try to reply (10-8), but these are only isolated initiatives, as a matter of fact thanks to Eder’s serves the yellow-blues retake control of the game again (14-10) and leave few points behind until the second technical time out (16-13). Soon after that a dangerous loss of focus puts the results at risk; Noliko ties at 18-18 with a block and an attack. Lorenzetti sends Hoag in for Lanza, but the game is tight (21-21, 23-23). At the advantages once again the opponent wins the set (24-26), thanks to a block of Tammemaa on Hoag.
The side out contest continues in the fourth set as well with a good Trentino Diatec (4-1), before a sprint of Noliko which turns in a point-to-point battle (7-8, 12-12). An action of Maan forces Lorenzetti to call for a time out on 12-14, but when the game resumes Tammemaa enlarges the gap with an ace 13-16. Kovacevic tries to mend the tear (16-17), but Lanza’s points are needed to fly up to 19. This time the final sprint (21-21, 23-23) is in favour of Trentino Diatec until 26-24 (Kovacevic’s counterattack).
