The regular season of SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/18 will conclude this weekend; Sunday, 4th March the teams will take the field to play the twenty-sixth and last round of championship; Diatec Trentino will play against Gi Group at Candy Arena in Monza. The match will start at 06.00 pm live on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel on the web site: www.elevensports.it/superlega.
Here Diatec Trentino After three matches played at PalaTrento that positively changed the position of Trentino Volley, the yellow-blues are ready for the away game that will determine their final position in the ranking of the regular season but not the pairings in the quarterfinals of the Play Off Scudetto. Lanza and his teammates absolutely need to win in order to confirm their fourth position without having to monitor the result of their direct competitor Calzedonia (which will play against Piacenza); in the case that the two teams reach the tie, Verona will overcome Trento and will have the opportunity to play two of the three matches of the Play Off at PalaOlimpia.“It is an important match which could offer further meaning to our path in the championship – explains the coach Angelo Lorenzetti- we want keep our fourth place in the ranking because we fought to gain it after all the difficulties that we had at the beginning of the regular season. We’re ready but we know that to achieve our goal we’ll have to stay focused because we’ll face a team that could play without pressure relying on the enthusiasm of its young players. This is what allows Gi Group to show an intense way of playing volleyball and we’ll need to be prepared to reply with determination but also with humility.” Diatec Trentino will reach Monza this afternoon. As all the players are available, the technical staff just have to decide what kind of formation they want to propose. Sunday morning’s training at Candy Arena in Monza will give the opportunity to tie up loose ends. This match will be the 36th seasonal match (23 victories and 12 defeats) of Trentino Volley, the 751st official match of its history and the 407th match away from Trento. Diatec Trentino will conclude its regular season in Brianza, as it happened in the last season; the score 3-0 on the 26th of February during the 2016/17 championship, allowed the yellow-blues to gain the second position overcoming Perugia.
The opponents Gi Group Monza already knows its position in the ranking (tenth place) and waits for Trentino Diatec knowing that they’ll not have the opportunity to reach the qualification for the Playoff Scudetto UnipolSai 2018. With four victories out of twelve played matches of the away round, the race to one of the first eight positions (goal which was perfectly achieved during the last championship) has become more and more difficult, also because Monza has never managed to win against direct opponents. The light and shade year G Group has lived has highlighted interesting individualities, such as the, the Czech striker Dzavoronok (329 points in 25 matches, the fourteenth scorer, ninth ace man among the first twenty strikers in the tournament) and the middle-blocker Beretta, very careful in the block phase (eighth blocker) and very valuable in the serves (sixth server). Then there is Plotnytskyi a Ukrainian young player (1997) who came last November from Dinamo Kharkiv and often good striker as he confirms in his eleventh overall place in the strikers’ placings.
The precedents. Trentino Volley and Vero Volley Monza played against in eleven official occasions; two of them during this competitive year. The first one on the 18th of October (Coppa Italia 2018’s Final Four 3-0 for the yellow-blues) and the second one on the 26th of December (first round of regular season, 3-1 for the homeowners). The balance is in favour of the yellow-blues. At Monza’s Palazzetto dello Sport, Trento won 3-0 in three out of four precedents. The last lighting raid in Monza’s home field is referred to match 2 of the Final Four of the Playoffs Scudetto 2017, played almost an year ago (3-0 the 8th of March). In the past Trentino Volley played other seven matches (all won) against a team from Monza: Acqua Paradiso, already Montichiari; Monza’s field has always been positive for Trento, keeping in mind the successes for 3-1 obtained on the 27th of December 2009, the 30th of January 2011 and the 8th of January 2012.
The referees. The match will be directed by Umberto Zanussi (firt referee from Belluno, in Serie A from 2006) and Giorgio Gnani (second referee from Ferrara, in Serie A from 1997 and international from 2009). This is the first time that the two referees work together in a match of SuperLega UnipolSai 2017/18, the 15th personal for Zanussi (who in this season has already directed Trento-Latina 3-2 of the 23rd of November and Trento-Ravenna 3-1 of the 7th of January) and the 18th for Gnani, who in this year has already refereed Trentino Diatec in the semi final of Supercoppa lost 1-3 against Perugia in Civitanova (7th of October), in the 3-1 home match on Castellana Grotte (28th of October), in the 3-0 away match in Frosinone against Sora (13th of December) and in the 3-1 away match in Verona (21st of January).
